Poll question: Which is the more important story?
I am aware that I have a high-profile thread about Bobby Jindal. That pre-dates either speech, so don't take that as evidence of my opinion one way or the other.

1. Jindal's we already know Obama can speak - Jindal just buried himself.

2. Given that the major takeaway from Jindal's speech was how inconsequential it was...
I guess I have to go with Obama.

3. Good question.
Until Jindal came on, I was beaming with pride and confidence in the leadership and poise of Obama. After Jindal, I was laughing at the state of the repukes.

Neither was a surprise, but Jindal's fail may have been more notable for the short term. Obama's speech will be with us much longer.

One point, I have heard nearly no negative criticism of Obama's speech. Obama and Jindal worked together on that.

4. to be fair, I think part of the focus on Jindal is how it shows how devoid of talent the GOP is
Seems like it is partly a celebration of the fact that the GOP, as we have known it in the past couple of decades, is done for.

But, yeah, President Obama* had THE message. And it was beautifully stated.

*President Obama .... don't ya just LOVE writing/reading that phrase!

5. You seem to implicitly recommend a correlation of import and discussion volume
Edited on Wed Feb-25-09 10:16 AM by Kurt_and_Hunter
I think Jindal's speech was more interesting and provoking of comment than Obama's because Obama is the President. I am more concerned with what he does, not what he says.

Jindal represents a political dynamic more than a policy dynamic so what he says is pretty much the whole story.

In terms of import, the data in the C/S housing report released yesterday is probably as germane to Obama's ultimate success or failure in office as anything said in a speech but I don't expect it to have the same priority on a political discussion board. It's not very sexy.

9. I do, and it's a bit unfair, but I was honestly surprised to log in
and see all the discussion focused on what I thought was a speech only noteworthy in its mundanity and unimportance.

8. If I had to rate them, of course the President's speech was more important but...
I can multi task.
