Heath Shuler, worth even having as a Democrat?
Edited on Tue Feb-10-09 11:09 PM by Jennicut
"Democratic Congressman Heath Shuler of North Carolina says his party's failure to pursue a bipartisan compromise on the stimulus has eroded the program's credibility. And he is singling out House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. 'I truly feel that's where maybe House leadership and Senate leadership have really failed.'"

I don't like Reid or Pelosi either but this is utter crap. The Dems did not fail in bipartisanship, the Rethugs (except 3 of them) refused to even try.

And cracking up over Reid's spokesman's comeback:
"So how did Senator Reid’s spokesman respond to the criticism? By slamming Shuler's record as a professional football player.
Jim Manley e-mailed The Politico newspaper, 'Let me get this straight — this is coming from a guy who threw more than twice as many interceptions than touchdowns?'"
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,490744,00.html
Yes, it comes from Faux but the whining is from a DINO. Is he just a Repub with a D after his name or a legitimate Dem? Would a Rethug be much different from him?

And remember the game he went in for ONE play and threw a touchdown pass after being told by Allen to hand off to Brown to set up a field goal...and got chewed out.

8. You are correct...I was watching ESPN Classic the other day and...
there was a show on called "Who's #1?" which was a series of shows they did a number of years ago on a whole slew of sports topics. The topic at hand was "Worst NFL Busts" and Shuler was way the hell up there. The funniest part of it was that there were I think 3 Penn State running backs in the top 15 of this list. Ryan Leaf was #1.

23. Yep, and Curtis Enis...
I can't remember who the other guy was. They also had Penn State DE Courtney Brown on the list. Remember that one? I'm sure you do since you're a Skins fan. He got drafted ahead of Arrington even though Arrington was the star of the team. Worked out pretty well for you guys though. But it was this load of BS about Brown's "potential" that made the Browns pick him so early. I'm sure they regret that one right along with their selection of Tim Couch. I will admit that despite Brown being a bust, the Texans (my hometown team) made the right choice taking Mario Williams at DE instead of Reggie Bush or Vince Young. I remember everyone was FURIOUS about them not taking either Vince or Reggie, but both of them have proven to be far less consistent than Williams. Williams is already a beast despite having a major injury during his first season.

Meanwhile, I am very interested to see how my school's WR, Michael Crabtree, does in the NFL. He has a lot of talent and a good work ethic. I've heard he will probably be a top 5 or 10 pick. Hopefully he doesn't turn out to be a bust.

31. Cough...Welker...
Crabtree has uncanny quickness for a guy that is 6-2 to 6-3 and well over 200 pounds. The juke moves that he can do are very impressive. Plus he has great leaping ability, hands, and excellent route-running just like Welker. He's not blazing fast in the 40. He can be caught from behind. But I think the first 20 yards is more important in football. If you can blow past people initially, that's a big deal. And Crabtree's "quicks" are special for a guy that big. Hell, for anyone really, regardless of size.

27. Speaking of fiascos...
What do you think of the RB situation right now? I'm a big Sproles fan. Always have been. The QB he played with at K-State, Ell Roberson, went to my high school (he's 4 years older than me) so I followed his career and paid quite a bit of attention to KSU. Sproles is incredible. LT used to be incredible but appears to have hit the injury bug and "age wall" that so many great RB's run into once they start approaching 30. Remember Eddie George? That guy kicked ass every year and then suddenly ended up irrelevant over night. It's that damn age wall. That's the amazing thing about Barry Sanders and Jim Brown. They went out at the top of their game.

7. He votes for Nancy to be Speaker. My former Congressman was Jim Leach.
Leach was a Republican but probably more liberal then quite a few of the Conservative Democrats.

The most important vote anyone in the House makes is who they vote for Speaker of the House. It is really the most important thing since the Speaker can ram things through.

In other words, yes, it is worth it even if he pisses us off frequently. It is better then a Republican.

Leach lost in 2006. He endorsed Obama before the election.

NOT!!!! He can shuffled bill clinton down here every damn weekend and it still won't help him to win statewide office. As a matter of fact clinton could possibly hurt him more than he would hurt himself.

I can just picture it. Picture of clinton and heath together and the comments heath made about the dems and his reasons for not voting for the stimulus bill.

This past election proved that the AA community and the younger voters AIN'T playing:fistbump:

16. It matters because it's a numbers and a money game
Incumbents generally raise more money than challengers which means more money in total for the DCCC than the NRCC. If the DCCC has a fundraising advantage it is directly correlated to House Democrats doing better in elections.

35. Bama fan eh?
I graduated from high school with Utah's QB Brian Johnson. Had an AP English class with him in fact. Not to rub it in or anything, but he made his classmates and all of Baytown proud this year. Granted, I live 9 hours away in Midland now, but still, it was very cool to see him kicking ass. He only got to play our senior year in high school because the head coach's stepson was a year older than us and played all 4 years of his high school career.

19. Shuler teamed with Tancredo and buddies on immigration enforcement
http://journals.democraticunderground.com/madfloridian/1691

One of the links is dead, but the pertinent into is there. Look at the company this guy keeps...he who was handpicked by Rahm.

"Tony Blankley
Peter Brimelow
Pat Buchanan
Ann Coulter
John Derbyshire
Marcus Epstein
Mark Krirkorian
Heather MacDonald
Michelle Malkin
John O'Sullivan
Steve Sailer
Robert Samuelson
Phyllis Schlafly
Thomas Sowell
Diana West"

He was working with Lindsey Graham and Tancredo on the bill. Not our kind of bill as Democrats.

"Patriotic Democrats, led by Rep Heath Shuler (NC,) are trying to secure our borders by introducing the SAVE (Secure America Through Verification and Enforcement) Act. In addition to getting Democratic support the SAVE Act has managed to secure endorsements from Labor and Business organizations.

...."Amnesty supporters always say that both parties must come together and create a “bi partisan immigration reform bill.” Last Summer, Lindsay Graham went as far as saying “my job to work with Democrats to do hard things. This is no longer about immigration. Can your Congress, can your Senate, come together to do things that one party can't do itself?"

He was featured on Tancredo's website.

44. he's my rep... and the ONLY reason he was elected is because
his predecessor, Charles Taylor was so damn corrupt. This area, aside from Asheville, NC, is really, really conservative. REALLY conservative, very fundie. Not Saddleback Church fundie, but backwoods fundie, satan-is-around-every-corner, very pro-Palin (not pro McCain, pro Palin).

So the fact that a "democrat" was even elected is incredible. If Taylor had been a Dem., Shuler would have run as a repug; he's in it for himself. But, NC went blue in 2008 (kicking out Dole for Hagan, and electing our first female governor, Bev Purdue, another Democrat) so Shuler might have a chance to kick Richard Burr's butt out of office.
