McCain to Obama: Going After Limbaugh a Mistake
“He has a very wide viewing audience. He is entitled to his views. People listen very carefully to him... I don't know why the president would take him on.”

http://thepage.time.com/excerpts-of-mccain-interview-on-fox-and-friends/

Keep in mind Obama, mentioned this guy one time. Taking him on? LOL.These idiots piss me off

1. It is a strategy for the middle. Obama and the Democrats are currently in the process of
casting the dissenting Republicans as extremists, and it is working.

85. Exactly... I don't even care about the crazies who listen to Rush. We will never agree with them.
We are going for the 70-80% of Americans who are reasonable.

It is early, but so far Obama is doing incredible in my opinion. He has been better than I could have hoped for (and I realize it is still very early). I am VERY happy with him.

And I am saying this as someone who was very sad that he chose Warren to lead prayer.

35. Exactly! Take him ON?? Obama never did such a thing. This was repub gossip
spread by corporate media. All President Obama said to the House GOP was, "you just can't listen to Rush Limbaugh if you want to get things done." - or something to that effect.

McCain is joining the losing chorus of LOUD, but irrelevant repubs on attack mode, creating lies by twisting words and using innuendo to get our "liberal media" to rile up against our President who is trying to clean THEIR mess up, those g.d. ingrates!

He didn't attack Limpy. He didn't "take him on". He was making a point to whiny repubs that flew to the cameras and mics the moment the meeting was over to whine about Nancy Pelosi!

Well at least we know who the REAL head of the GOP is no matter what prissy repub gets chairmanship of the RNC.

unless the advice is HOW TO MAKE THEM?????

John McCain's desperate grasping to remain relevant is truly pathetic.

The president is "taking him on" because Limbaugh spouts lies and inaccuracies and very few refute what Limbaugh says.

I seriously doubt, however, that Limbaugh will be a main focus of President Obama.

Earth to McCain....Limbaugh thinks you're an asshole too. You are such a Prisoner of the Right that you can't do anything about it. When McCain was being interviewed two separate times, and was asked about Rush going off on Colin Powell, and the next time when he said that he hoped Obama would fail, Mccain said "Ummm.....I would have to hear the quotes in context." Real act of bravery there. I can't believe that weenie was almost president.

16. As the OP said, Obama mentioned him ONCE, in the context of "maybe if the
Republicans want to get their shit together, they should stop listening to Limbaugh.." or something like that. Apparently the President of the United States should fear a radio personality so much he cannot mention him by name.

The fact is that Rush is putting down a man who is arguably the most popular president in history. Every time Rush opens his mouth, everyone outside of his hate circle despises him that much more and it makes the Republicans look that much more like hard nosed dicks. McCain is an idiot who is part of the past and everything that's held us back as a nation and as a people, that is no longer the case.

Kerry was on MTP (shortly after Palin was announced) and said "McCain is a Prisoner of the Right Wing." (or something....I referenced it upthread). "He wanted to pick Tom Ridge or Joe Liebermann, but Rush Limbaugh rejected it." So true. So sad and pathetic that no Republicans have the guts to take on Rush Limbaugh. What losers.

43. Poor Rush. Poor McCain. Poor Palin. Poor all those other repubs who are so bland I can't remember
their names or unmemorable quotes. It is like anyone with a real chance for being elected as a repub in the future (maybe Mitt, or Jeb or Colin, or ??) are just sitting on the sidelines, letting these losers in their party implode themselves. Let the democrats take advantage of all this to expose them as the incompetent, bigoted, nasty, small witted people that they are.

I just hope we stretch this out far enough that there is no coming back of this current party of losers that the Repubs have become, for the next 20-30 years, at least (my lifespan). The other way it could play out, of course, is that this dumb witted version of the Repubs implodes so fast and vast that the more powerful moderate Repubs in the background can immediately begin to form a stronger union with these splinter fringe freaks all cleared out for them, and the Repubs harken back to their roots as the grand old party.

Which will be more appealing and may finally create a somewhat organized and normal base for them. I'd rather not do things that play into their hands; however, it is in many ways a very good thing for forward progress to be exposing these racist, fundie, dumb half wits for what they are right now. Encourage, expose, marginalize, marginalize, marginalize....repeat....extinction.

Let him be the face of the Republican party. Most sane people see him for the sleazy, drug-addled, bloviating buffoon that he is. And he really is one of the chief strategists of the GOP. He's in on their meetings and conference calls. Now that Rove and Bush are out of power, he is the closest thing to a leader they have (sorry, Boehner).

The fact that everybody's making a big deal out of this means the GOP is worried.

Would just put Limbaugh on ignore. All that's happening is inflating his pompous ego even more. He even thinks he has a stimulus package better then the President's now and some of the media has given it kudos. Seriously though, if the media - especially MSNBC - pays Rush no attention, this silly story gets buried where it should be.

Again, someone's got to do it.

He sounds particularly unhinged today. Started off by railing against some financial guy on CNBC who dared to not agree with his views - missed most of that part.

Then Obama - Liar! Liar! Says shrinkage of economy the worst in "almost 3 decades"!!!! WRONG, it's the worst since 1982! Thats . . . . . 27 years ago. Oooops! Never mind. This little bit was completely hilarious as he followed his own flawed logic.

The Lily Ledbetter Bill has nothing to do with equal pay for women but is just a gift to the trial lawyers (!)

How many jobs have been lost since Obama took office?

Obama is waging a War on Prosperity ! This one is OBVIOUSLY his new frame and he will repeat this one over and over.

President Obama doesn't need to invoke the name of a private citizen to admonish the republicans. He should have gone after their "elected leadership" as they are a legitimate target. Hammering the minority leaders and calling them obstructionists places the focus on the correct target. It doesn't make sense to give that asshole free press to play the victim.

thanks for your take but I don't agree that Obama shouldn't have spoken the truth about the eternal victim.

My money's on Obama. I just saw two videos in Political Videos that take down rush limpbaughs.

When Republicans give you advice, you know you're beating them silly, so you should do the opposite.

62. Obama forced the cowardly GOP party leadership to admit that they have to kow tow

to a draft dodging, pedophile, drug addict because
they're afraid of alienating his bigoted, uneducated
white male audience.

The so called base of the GOP represents a small minortiy
of voters. Limbaugh and the GOP apparently are blissfully
unaware of this mundane fact.

How is that a bad thing

crawling on his hands and knees begging Limpball's forgiveness, it struck me it's a win win. Rush is now the head of the Republican Party. Mr. Oxycontin himself. Only the far right will pay attention and lick his boots.

Obama has mentioned him several times and mentioned Hannity even more. There is something called free speech and opposition in this country. Why is he spending even one iota of a second worrying about Rush? If he does well EVERYone will vote for him next time around. He needs to focus. BTW, not happy with all of the pork in the new stimulus package.

Edited on Fri Jan-30-09 04:36 PM by ErinBerin84
Are you saying "free speech" to Rush or to Obama? God forbid Obama dare MENTION Rush by name. Jeeze. And btw, RUSH is the one who says "under the bus" to anyone on his own side who dare express disent. I don't care that Rush wants Obama to fail, but I do think we can use the fact that all of the Republicans are afraid of Rush to our advantage.

Let the Republicans openly align with Rush. Then more people will find out what Rush espouses and see what the Repukes are defending.

That demagogue did nothing but spew hate and fear, he needed to be called on it, Limbaugh is no different.

Furthermore, President Obama is entitled to his own views, being elected President doesn't negate his First Amendment rights.

He lost the GOP the white house because of his non conservative ways...As far as an Obama vs Rush battle, Obama would hand Rush his boil infested ass. The President of the United States (with party majorities in both houses) probably has just a liiiiittle more power than a right wing shock jock...

94. Doesn't he answer his own question here?
“I don't know why the President would take him on. He's part of the political landscape and he plays a role.”

Yes, a very very divisive one. Sooooo, wouldn't a politician promising to bring the country together want to take on "divisiveness"? Particularly when "he" is part of the political landscape? No wonder McCain got his butt kicked. He really is a moron.

Limbaugh is a drug addict and he acts like one. He doesn't need a microphone, he needs intensive counseling. Because he, like every other drug addict, is making all of the co-dependents who listen to him as sick as he is. It really is pretty pathetic.

that's why she couldn't name any thing she reads to couric- she listens to talk radio like most of the GOP base- all of their base- that's why she was chosen and until then limbaugh wouldn't get behind mccain.

she was announced minutes before his fri show, before the GOP convention to finally get limbaugh on board. that was his excuse to get behind mccain.

Our awesome president, slapping a fat, drug-addled pied-pier back into his place is not so much "taking him on" as it is swatting a mosquito. If McCain seriously believes that ol' Anal Cyst is some sort of force to be reckoned with, I'd wager to say old Johnny's been popping the same sort of pills Rush has.
