Just What Does It Mean That There Is Money In This Bill For Jobs?......
What kind of jobs? Is the government going to put out a classified ad section with job postings? I really don't think so.

So where and who is the job money going to go to and how are we going to know that it is spent to put people to work? Is there a monitoring of who gets the money and how they spend it?

Are there ground rules for how they should spend the money? Who they should hire? How much they should pay them? Will they include benefits like health insurance? How can we be sure that whomever gets the money isn't going to pay people in India to answer phones or people in China to manufacture items? How will this be tracked and will there be penalties to those who get the money and don't spend it the right way for jobs?

I firmly believe that giving people jobs or giving people a raise if they are employed is the way to stimulate this economy. But I've had the feeling especially the last couple of days that corporate america was using this Bush/Repug created economic crisis as a cover to get rid of expensive employees only to say they are using the job money in this bill to put - cheaper people to work - cheaper workers - with less pay.

I'm as concerned about how this money will be spent as I was concerned as to how the $700 billion TARP money was spent.

Will there be accountability with this money giving?

It seems that the IRS is the only government service that can keep track of money. When we send money to Iraq - it can't be tracked. When we put it in a TARP giveaway - it can't be tracked. I'm hoping that the Obama Administration will have learned from the last 8 years that the American people don't mind spending our tax dollars to get us out of this hole we are in. We just want to know it is spent correctly and we are getting the bang for the buck we should be.

1. 10,000 schools
If you don't know how government contracts work, learn. Can the modernization of 10,000 schools be outsourced?

The links to this bill have been posted numerous times. Take responsibility to educate yourself instead of starting flame wars.

3. You need to learn to do some research.....
instead of running around with your head in your hands.

4. Well, I am a VERY small business-owner and anything that helps
me directly (tax cuts for lower income) and my clients (tax cuts for middle and lower income) stands to result in at least ONE more job out there, because my business would be under less financial strain and I could hire another assistant..

FYI

but what about those other small business and big business owners that will pocket the money and keep it for themselves or spend the money in a way that it really doesn't contribute to the spirit of this economic stimulus bill? Look what happened with the TARP money - bonuses, perks, trips, etc - and the banks are still tight and not lending money to start the engine back up.

This is what I'm concerned with on this package. I'm on your side - as I am with the other posters to this thread - I just want assurances that the money that goes out is used in the manner and the spirit of restarting this economy. Right now - I just don't have that warm feeling in my tummy.

Perhaps they should spend $150,000 and employ an CPA from DU here to track the monies - maybe then I'd feel better. At least that would be one job that we know that was created from these funds.

6. Other small business owners can spend it any damned way they want.
It's the SPENDING that helps the economy. We want money moving around and changing hands a lot - that's what keeps the whole ball rolling.

If they spend it on groceries or lunch or clothes or cars or whatever, they are keeping the money moving. And every time it moves, it generates taxes and profits and money for paychecks somewhere along the line.
