If some famous rock star who happens to be gay makes a statement, it won't be what every single human being in the world who also happens to be gay feels or would say or would agree with or disagree with.

If some famous clergyman who happens to be gay makes a statement, it won't be what every single human being in the world who also happens to be gay feels or would say or would agree with or disagree with.

If some poster who happens to be gay makes a post on a message board, it won't be what every single human being in the world who also happens to be gay feels or would say or would agree with or disagree with.

That is all.

1. Don't you live in the same Black/White world that W does? Are we supposed to
see shades of grey? And before you ask; some of my closest friends are grey.

2. You mean one person can't pretent to speak for the entire GLBT community?

6. This is the essence of prejudice. One person represents the whole group
Edited on Mon Jan-19-09 08:00 PM by Harvey Korman
Because "they're all the same." Conversely, hateful ideas about the whole group are attributed to each person within it.

The "reasonable person" gambit which you're referring to is a common tactic by those who want to delegitimize and stifle the legitimate complaints of a minority, by finding a more "reasonable person" within said minority and holding that person up as the more "mainstream" representative of the group.

9. Nicely stated. I didn't have to sign a statement of beliefs to vote
and the dems never asked me for a loyalty statement when I sent them donations.

10. There is no such thing as a gay "community"
Unless you're using that word as an euphemism for "people not necessarily related by anything other than they lick the same sex"

(that's not a typo)

:P
