We have a chance to be the country we say we are.
That's what Obama's election means. We saw it on display today on the Mall. I understand the concerns expressed so often here on DU. We are not going to agree with every policy position he takes. He will make missteps and the pace of change will not be quick enough. I would suggest that those will be bumps in the road. JFK unleashed a spirit of renewal and energy that helped move the country past Jim Crow. Barack is touching so many of the right symbols and themes that it cannot help but put America back in touch with its better instincts. We are in a new era. Progressives should continue to play the Frederick Douglas role. But all of us need to appreciate what Obama has already done to lift this nation. I believe that this former Chicago community organizer will not break faith with workers, the disadvantaged and the marginalized. Have faith DU, our time is here. We are one.

2. I loved Bill Clinton, but not even he had the ability to inspire such a positive spirit.
Its just possible that we may go back to the days before the Nixon's of our history and have a president that people are actually proud of. People might actually be able to see the government and the executive in a heroic light again. That in and of itself will do wonders for all these issues we face it.
