Jay-Z to perform concert on eve of Obama Inauguration
NEW YORK — Jay-Z isn't performing at President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration, but he is planning to make a big splash on the eve of the event.

The rapper, one of Obama's biggest celebrity boosters, has announced that he's playing a concert in Washington on Jan. 19, the day before Obama officially drops "elect" from his title.

Jay-Z will perform for a crowd of less than 2,000 at the Warner Theatre.

3. Why?
BTW my girlfriend and I are arguing about whether or not we should go. Our dilemma is a Jay Z concert is fine for NBA All-Star Weekend, but we were thinking an Inaugural would have to be different. Your thoughts Frenchie?

2. Good. I went with my son to a Jay Z concert last summer and he
did a tribute to Obama that was great! The crowd went nuts. He pumped those young people up to vote and I really enjoyed his rap about Bush....my kid knew all the words....all I knew was it ended with F Bush!

30. It would be nice if...
...he sang about how he used his millions to improve the lives of those he left behind.

The last thing this world--and especially America--needs right now is more money-hungry exploiters of the poor.

9. Not a big fan
Edited on Wed Jan-07-09 05:09 PM by politicasista
He seems to be a bandwagon jumper for some reason. Don't remember him being this vocal about Bush or politics before, especially since his wife (Bee is ok) used to support Bush?

Not hating but it seems like he is more interested in getting dough. Had he and others shown more interest in getting rid of like they have with getting and inaugurating PE Obama in the WH, the country would not be in the mess it is right now. Now PE Obama is inheriting the greatest American ever.

13. I think he's got a lousy flow but he did rap in 2002 about not invading Iraq in a
song with Punjabi MC. Other than that I don't know if he has much else to say.

I don't listen to much hip-hop. I used to love it in the late 80s, but it's all about bling-bling, and everything else. :hi:

22. Wow. I understand
Don't get me wrong, some of it is great to dance to, but if it's overplayed, it gets boring fast.

Interesting that the last time music (R&B and Hip-Hop) sounded good was when Clinton was prez. Now that Obama will be prez, hopefully music will return back to the good days, but that's unlikely now.

Yes, some (not all) music has really sucked since Bush stole office in 2001.

:hi:

26. All the good hip-hop had been pushed underground
The only hip-hop and R&B music played on the radio was the crap that talked about cheating on one's mate, getting high, hookers dancing on poles in strip clubs, etc. Little if any real good stuff that sent Bush and his ilk back to the cold spot in Hell they came from.

Rock sounds better when conservos take office. But rap stinks under right-wing rule.

Edited on Wed Jan-07-09 10:59 PM by Guy Whitey Corngood
and rappers were tearing him and Reagan a new asshole constantly. Plus there were so many different styles to chose from. You had everything from BDP and Public Enemy to A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul. Now it's all the same shit. Damn! I'm sounding like a bitter old fuck.

37. I stand corrected
Actually, Bushco and their deregulation mania enabled corporations like Clear Channel to buy up as many radio stations as they could. The consequences of that runaway corporatism is that music has been, and still is, censored. Rock stations hardly ever play good protest anthems--and hip-hop is limited to dirty south shit that raps only about money, dope, sex, and strippers--creating a negative stereotype that gives all young African-Americans a bad name, and encourages urban Caucasian youth to conform to such negative stereotype, a.k.a., the so-called "wigger" fad.

There's no variety except for the good stuff that has been pushed underground because the conservative-controlled radio stations won't play the good songs.

29. Beyonce never supported Bush
Because Destinys Child played at a k"Concert for Americas Youth" the night before the 2001 inauguration doesn't mean she supported Bush. Lots of people were to ignorant to know that Bush wasn't just a republican, but he was about to be the worst POTUS in history.

he campaigned a LOT for him in that state with all those free concerts. I wish he was performing at the free concert at Lincoln Memorial, though.

23. I have some issues with Jay Z
But I will give him credit with getting the hip hop community excited about politcs. Unlike an his "vote or die" money making scam in 2004 it seems like Jay really cares.

In any case, my favorit hip hop artist this election season are NAS and Young Jeezy. Why you ask?

Edited on Wed Jan-07-09 07:04 PM by politicasista
He was the one that had the Vote or Die campaign in 04. He had it 08, but Jay and others were more productive in GOTV with the hip-hop generation.
