Have you noticed how the repubs are nervous about Obama as President?
Edited on Wed Dec-31-08 01:37 PM by Blue_Roses
With inauguration day only days away, I've noticed my rwing brother-in-law go nuts. He's a rabid fundamentalist and preacher and I think he's worried he will lose his tax exempt status. Couldn't happen to a bigger asshole.

They are scared of an Obama administration!

...and I couldn't be happier:bounce:

January 20th can't come soon enough:toast:

1. My Repub parents are actually worried that Obama has been handed too much shit to deal with
For the very first time in 8 long years, they are "down on Bush" and what he left us to deal with after he's gone. Better late than never I guess.

They genuinely seem to want Obama to succeed.

succeed, even some repubs. It's the nut-so repubs who are worried about accountability of their fat bank accounts that seem to make up most of the fear.

what goes around does indeed come around...

2. I haven't. I've noticed them gleeful over Blagojevich digging in for a long fight.
They don't even seem fazed.

4. My right-wing brother is convinced the end of the world starts this coming Spring!
I'm loving every minute of him moving on from political humiliation and repudiation to something else near and dear to his fundie heart... the End Times! He says a world leader(Obama) gets assassinated by Muslims which touches off worldwide chaos, which in turn brings onto the scene the Anti-Christ himself! I said "holy shit, you mean Obama isn't the Anti-Christ"?!! Blown away by that revelation!

6. What I am seeing
is racism. I have a son-in-law and a son (I am ashamed to admit) who constantly make jokes about Obama's "true" supporters, and, I have had many heated discussions with them. They are both republicans. I so wish they could see what I see in Obama.

Both my husband, when he was alive, and myself have always been progressives, and, I wonder where I went wrong with my youngest son. Oviously, my daughter (oldest daughter) is married to my repub son-in-law.

Where did I go wrong, I ask myself.

At least my youngest son is now questioning Bush. Perhaps baby steps are needed here.

7. My repub dad is pretty relaxed about it.
I was surprised. He was actually talking about the importance of economic regulation the other day. I sometimes think he just identifies as a repub out of brand loyalty. He said his younger brother is totally unhinged about it, though. He's one of the "email senders". Thank FSM I'm not on his list.

8. My Repub in laws were very gracious after the election
They live in Alabama and joke about me turning their daughter into a Dem. To their credit, even though they were apalled that their daughter voted for an African American, after the election they said they hope Obama is successful dealing with all the problems we are facing. I also give them credit for raising a daughter who rejects racism during a time when the south was inflamed with racial conflict. Change is very slow in small town Alabama. Generational, I suspect.

9. My parents are freaked out
They live in a gated golf community in Florida where terrorists hide behind every palm tree. They're John McCain's age, and are in denial about his health problems as much as they are about their own. They are more than happy to kiss goodbye all their civil liberties and rights out of fear, and any attempts I have made to explain how un-American this is, and how by doing so they allow themselves to be "terrorized" have been futile. The McCain ad showing Obama as a "rock star" and making the comparison to Paris Hilton actually affected them. My mother says Obama is "scary". To her, the parallels are to similar to Adolph Hitler and his popularity, though I have to wonder how much of that is race-based as well. Oh, and these are educated people.
