Pardon Lasts Just One Day for Developer in Fraud Case
NY Times...

By DAVID STOUT and ERIC LICHTBLAU
Published: December 24, 2008

WASHINGTON — President Bush changed his mind on Christmas Eve, pulling back a pardon he had extended a day earlier to a Brooklyn developer at the center of a Long Island real estate fraud case and adding a bizarre twist to the episode.

The developer, Isaac R. Toussie, who was listed Tuesday as one of the beneficiaries of the president’s constitutional power to wipe away a criminal record, is not being pardoned “based on information that has subsequently come to light,” the White House said late Wednesday afternoon.

The terse White House statement did not elaborate, but officials familiar with the case said that presidential aides — and perhaps President Bush himself — were concerned about appearances, because Mr. Toussie’s father, Robert, donated $28,500 to the Republican National Committee last April, for what apparently was his first political contribution. He also donated $2,300 to the presidential campaign of Senator John McCain.

Reconsidering this one is, I'm sure, a good thing, but at the same time...
Is it me, is is he creating new ways of fucking with people (like he did with Iraq)? Oh, and by the way, Mr. President, what about "information that has subsequently come to light,” about WMDs, etc...????

As we approach the New Year, let's toast all of the concerned citizens of the world who have been working so diligently to ensure that those responsible for so many atrocities will be tried for war crimes...

Sorry to be a downer... Happy Holidays, all.

9. It's 'Chanukah' but only if you pronounce the 'ch'
Actually there's a place on-line that sells a 'Santa Dreidel' which would have been perfect in my youth...

But anyway, whatever's appropriate: Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, Happy Kwanzaa, Fuck Bush & Cheney -- whatever contributes to your joy of the season... Be well.

7. He's trying to protect his legacy.
Unfortunately, in Clinton's time, there were very connected people who were caught paying for pardons. And their money was going to law firms who were going to "negotiate" the pardons. One of them involved the law firm of George Mitchell. I believe that's his name. A one time Senator? Friend of the Clintons?

In this day and age, it's good to see that even the Republicans have limits.
