There's something really sad about a competition over what group
has been/is the most persecuted/discriminated against. We shouldn't be pitting groups against one another. We should be standing together against discrimination against any group.

4. Republicans defeat us when we fight amongst ourselves

We defeat them when we work together.

Groupism hurts us.

6. It's a standard Repub tactic to make people think liberty is a pie and you only get more
by someone else getting less.

It's a standard technique to turn minorities in coalitions against each other.

16. What is more sad is when people refuse to realize the real suffering a group
is going through and tell them to pipe down and wait.

22. I don't think it's competition. It's a debate about historical facts
Edited on Tue Dec-23-08 08:53 AM by HamdenRice
When someone says that the Rick Warren invitation is the equivalent of the Nazi gas chambers or final solution, or that the position of GLBT people in California after Prop 8 is the same as African Americans before the civil rights movement, that person is making a factually inaccurate statement -- not to mention an idiotic, historically illiterate, racist and anti-Semitic statement -- and anyone who uses those analogies needs to be called on it.

It has nothing to do with competition. Competition would be, say, Blacks and Jews arguing over whether the slave trade and slavery were the equivalent of the holocaust. You never hear that because both peoples know that world historical horrors are unfathomable and therefore incomparable.

But saying that the position of GLBT people is comparable to either is just plain factually stupid.
