Why is there an invocation (prayer) at a presidential innaguration?

That's the real question, IMO. I know, there will be the "It's a tradition" replies, but really, a state event should have an absence of religious commentary.

A lot of the godbotherers are so insecure in their faith that they insist, with all the force of a clear majority, that EVERYBODY has to do their part in grovelling to the sky daddy at every possible opportunity.

I would prefer a more secular "blessing". Perhaps a philosophical statement from someone who "looks" like a pastor.

But that will never happen.
