Edited on Sat Dec-20-08 02:03 PM by Kerry2008
...And now some of you are saying you won't watch after we finally get a Democratic President?

I'm gay. I'm disappointed.

But I realize why he picked Rick Warren. I realize it's only 2 minutes.

I can't believe some of you worked this long, and this hard only to pass up the biggest event for our party in eight years.

I hate to break it to you, but this isn't the first or last time Obama will disappoint you.

Some of you fail to remember the name Donnie McClurkin, and yet all of you supported Obama at one point after that happened.

I guess if John McCain were taking the oath of office, we'd hear a different tune from most of you about Obama.

Like I said in the OP, all of DU supported Obama at one point after the Donnie McClurkin affair.

So it's interesting to note the incredible outrage over Warren.

13. There WILL be primaries in 2012.
Incumbency does not come with a disregard for the process, else Lieberman would still be a Democratic Senator.

Obama has started down a road where it is entirely possible there will be a challenger in those primaries.

So, if there is a challenge mounted and it gains steam, who is to fault?

63. Lieberman was a Senator, Presidents in modern times don't get seriously challenged in primaries
When they control the DNC and the entire party machinery, it's an incredibly daunting task to go up against an incumbent which is why nobody does it. If the President is very unpopular (like say Jimmy Carter or Bush Sr.) then it might happen. But if he's popular then there's very little chance of it.

To me it's akin to working for a company and when it finally comes time to get your reward you find that loudest, most obnoxious member of the team who has done something to offend nearly everyone and who had done nothing all year for the project suddenly gets a bigger bonus than you and now gets to stand there and throw it in your face. And you know that this team member is going to be continuing to be rewarded by interviews, etc. where he can continue his offending everyone as a big HA HA (Nelson Muntz style) each time you see him there.

40. Rick Warren is getting all the visible outrage here, and for good reason
But the problem is much deeper than that. The fact is that some of Obama's cabinet choices are simply WRONG by any reasonable assessment. And some others might appeal to the DLC appeasers who don't mind the top 1% controlling all the goddamn wealth in this country, but not to actual Democrats.

I can count on one hand the appointments which actually seem like sensible choices for the job. And that is very troubling. :evilfrown:

51. I haven't said that.
To be honest, I haven't thought about it one way or another. It's not a day of celebration, to inaugurate a center-right Democrat who offers friendship and respect to the conservative right while spurning the left.

I didn't work hard and long to elect Obama. I worked to replace GWB with a liberal left president.

I failed.

I remember McClurkin, who was just one more reason NOT to support Obama, and I never did excuse him.

I see "the biggest event for our party in eight years" as one of failure.

53. It's not that simple.
I don't regret working for/voting for Obama, and I certainly don't think that McCain would have been a better choice. That doesn't mean that I can't be pissed off about his choice of Warren to speak at the inauguration. I'm no idiot; I never figured that I'd be 100% on-board with all of his decisions (that sort of realism made me laugh at all the "Messiah" comments, btw).

Still, the Warren-thing pisses me off. I'm allowed to be pissed off about it. I earned the right to be pissed off. That doesn't mean that I think I made the wrong choice. We're not playing a zero-sum game here.
