Jonathan Alter had a good point on MSNBC about Warren
It was that: President-Elect Obama is telling the democratic party that he is in charge now and that the democrats are no longer going to be controlled by the disparte interest groups thst have tried to exert their control over the party for so long. These interest groups are being told that there is a new boss in town so to speak.

I won't say whether or not I agree with the statement except to say that it was interesting.

1. Seem to remember having been treated like that for the last 8 years
didn't feel good then. The President is not our Boss.

2. Alter shouldn't put words in Obama's mouth like that..let's just look at the
talking points to see why he chose Warren and what it means (if anything) about Obama's views on LGBT issues.

Back somebody into a corner where they feel that it's useless to come oout and vote for you a second time, and you cna end up losing that second election.

throwing in the towel because of his choice for invocation speaker?

Again...good-bye, don't let the door hit ya and all that.

29. Agreed. See ya.
I would think you'd be more interested in getting people to vote in the interests of gays on future gay legislation. Turning your backs on the Democrats will not help advance that cause, but suit yourself.

19. How on earth does Warren speaking at the Inaugural deny us equal rights?
I'm a young gay man and this does not offend me at all because a) I know that the PE is on our side b) there are so many other issues that he is also good on that the GOP would be atrocious on and c)it's a 1 day event. I'm not going to throw away this goldem opportunity to advance progressive causes. Also, he is the only president that I can remember that speaks of us in his speeches. "Young, old, white, black, gay, straight". His policies will be a lot better for us and we won't even remember Warren in 2010.

Warren also expands the base. A right-wing fundie might look at that and say hey I'll give Obama a opportunity to gain my vote. It's brilliant strategy as well.

Oh and lastly, no one knows more than me about being ostracized by society for being different than I but I won't get into those reasons here.

8. Obama's main interest is building a super majority.
You don't do that by only catering to liberals.

If Obama can get Warren to say the right things and bring fundies on board, it could be very powerful. Even the illusion that Obama *might* have brought some fundies on board could be very powerful in getting early legislation passed.

10. Thank you. You can't go from one exclusive party to the next.
That was never Obama's agenda. If you don't have a dialogue, you can't get people to change their thinking.

26. OTOH...
I do wonder if choosing Warren is going a bit too far in this regard.

That all, of course, depends on what Warren says in the invocation; whether he speaks towards unity or chooses to use the platform to trumpet the Religious Right's continued political influence despite Obama's election. I'm sure the Obama team will be careful with Warren, as they should, because he's not to be trusted, IMO.

25. Yes! Some things you can't change, some things you can.
The things you can, you have a much better chance at success, the more support you have.

12. Jonathan Alter is making the typical fascist claim of the Washington elite
The elite media are fucking fascists. They love the Leader Principle above all else, because they serve the Leader as a matter of course. "Disparate interests" is code for a very simple thing: Democracy. Anyone who praises "leadership" over "disparate interests" is a fucking fascist, pure and simple.

15. There's some truth to that.
But I think we knew that all along. We've seen the various groups get upset about one thing or another since the election.

***This is not meant to diminish any goup. It's just an observation.

23. Look On The Bright Side... For All Of Us Who Bought Obama Memorabilia
we will most certainly make a profit someday!!

IMHO I prefer to wait until he's in office for AT LEAST six months before I begin dissecting every decision he makes. What so many are doing right now seem premature to me and I'm sure barring some disaster in the next month, we're going to see the "now" decisions in action.

I'm more worried about what BFEE is doing right now that will screw this country even more. Sounds a bit "Pollyannish" I know but I still have a healthy "fear" about those in power.

Plus, I would prefer the American people start getting "fired up" about PROSECUTING these evil doers for ALL the crimes that have been committed. I'm not holding my breath, but what sweet revenge it would be!!!!!

The only thing Democrats enjoy doing more than complaining about the Republicans is eating their own. Success will destroy us in ways Bush and Rove could never dream of.
