CAROLINE is Obama's Choice...
...according to Steve McMahon, on Hardball tonight.

(Though he admits he didn't get that from Obama.)

Just tossing it on the pile...

1. I just assumed that was the case.
They did become like BFF during the primary and GE.

2. And there was that whole "passing of the torch thing" from the Kennedys to Barack.

24. OMG, it's been awhile. The Kennedy's are by the dozens, Obama doesn't have umpteen kids.
Thank heavens. ENOUGH!

I'm sick of "The Kennedys"! They are no better than the rest of the law abiding American families.

3. I could believe that only I don't
think he would publicly get into it. There's been days and days of speculation on this and now it's official: Caroline Kennedy is interested in being appointed the interim Senator from New York:bounce:

12. True. I hadn't taken it at that angle. Good point.
With the economic front shrinking and beginning to pinch hard, any goveror would have to be pretty aware that their state's financial health may have a lot to do with their relationship with the incoming president.

8. Is this why he selected Hillary to his cabinet?
to pave the way for Caroline? Surely beats pounding the pavements, kissing babies and facing opponents in debates, etc.

A woman who went through life with everything being handed to her on a silver platter is not going to lower herself to mingle with the masses. To actually campaign.

13. A crazy email that is circulating says that Bush will resign, Cheney will take over
and select Condi Rice as his V.P. Then he resigns and the Republicans have the first black female president. Even if for only a day.

Good for chuckle, though.

29. Yes, but...
Cheney could only designate Condi, she'd need to be confirmed by the Congress, which is pretty unlikely given that there are only five weeks (FIVE WEEKS!) til Obama's inauguration. Of course, if Cheney suffered a motherboard failure in office, the new President would be... Nancy Pelosi! (I think DU would need and exploding head if that ever came about.)

I appreciate your point that the Kennedy family has suffered greatly, but that photo is too horrifying for some of us to view.

25. Obama is the person who elevated her to national standing.
The role she has played on his team is a top role, and has been all year. She's clearly a person Obama is very, very impressed with. He's informed. Her detractors? Not.

30. Well, some would say that Caroline and Uncle Teddy elevated Barack...
...with their "passing of the torch" endorsement ~ but, either way, it's clear Caroline and Barack have a mutual admiration thing going.

26. This is an important point.
Edited on Tue Dec-16-08 01:53 AM by nsd
Ted and Caroline Kennedy gave Barack Obama an important boost in the fight against Hillary Clinton. Coming as it did after after the New Hampshire loss, their endorsement restored momentum to the Obama campaign and confirmed it as an idealistic movement, more than simply an individual candidacy. The commercial Caroline cut for Obama ("a president like my father") was a big deal.

Like others, I don't like the idea of dynasty or nepotism, but I do accept payback and loyalty as necessary parts of politics. The Kennedys did come through for Obama. He's the party's national leader now. If he wants this appointment, then that should count in Caroline's favor big time.
