Browner to be named new energy czar

Former Clinton Environmental Protection Agency administrator Carol Browner is expected to be named chief of energy and environmental issues in the new Obama White House.
The announcement, along with other top jobs at the Energy and Interior departments, could come as early as this week.
A spokesman for the Obama transition team said Wednesday he was unable to confirm or deny the Browner appointment.
Browner, who’s heading the transition team’s environmental division, has been reported by sources within the environmental community to be on the short list for the new White House post for several weeks, and The Washington Post reported Wednesday that she had likely landed the job.
President-elect Barack Obama is expected to create what is sometimes called an “energy czar” to coordinate energy and environmental policy among the myriad federal agencies and lead a new National Energy Council.
