JK Advice: Please stop droppng your voice at end of sentences.
He winds up beautifully but at the punchline, inevitably loses steam--slows do0wn, drops voice, almost trails off---he is our only hope and this speech pattern is disturbing. Please don't flame me...

1. I've noticed this too
and as much as I love him, I dislike the little glimmer of a self-satisfied smirk he gives at the end of some of the key talking points.

8. ..and the way he laughed at his lame "west wing" joke
at the DNC.

Ok, enough nitpicking. Otherwise, fine speech last night before the congressional black caucus (televised on cspan).

2. Broadcast Trick
Listen the the professional broadcasters, they always end "down". Do this to avoid sounding as if they question what they are saying. Kerry just needs to work at keeping the volume up.

3. Obama has a speech problem too
Not that it will hurt him in any way, but it's frustrating to hear. He's so intelligent and articulate, but he has a habit of saying "uh" way too often when he's not reading from prepared text.

I haven't noticed the Kerry speech pattern, but I'm sure I'll hear it now that it's been pointed out. I've only noticed a habit of repeating the first few words of a sentence 2 or 3 times, if there's applause for the last thing he said. It was an acute problem in his convention speech, but of course, it's because he got a LOT of applause! Yay!

4. Also, consider doing something with your....

HANDS. They fidgit nervously at the podium. I'd keep 'em out of the way. Grab the lectern or something ( Bush does this). Perhaps clasp them in front.

An occassional touch of self-deprecatory humor would not hurt at all.

Do not let "flip-flopping" jibes go unanswered. No one has flipped more than GWB. Let him have it.

Not countering them is a BAD idea. Ask Dukakis. Retaliate and you will at least neutralize an issue that seems to be working for them

5. I agree...

The strength of the message is lost when he trails off, delivering an almost apologetic sotto voce when he should end on a strong note!

Thanks for bringing this up -- I've noticed this bothersome delivery, too.

6. I just hope they see this...
Hubby asked me this a.m. if the Kerry camp reads DU--then asked me to post the thread. I was somewhat afraid of being bashed.
