1. It's wonderful.
President-Elect Obama knows that none of the great, important goals in his life are reached by him alone. He doesn't seem to savor them in private, but to share them with the people who helped him get there. He is a remarkably selfless man.

Peace to Rep. Evans.

3. I voted for Obama because of his plans for our future,
his stands on most issues that are important to me and his ability to motivate people. I am so happy he is our next President because he is such a good, kind, compassionate and caring human being.

5. This shows his true character.
The most important life of his political career, and he is caring enough to remember the people that are important to him. Just one more reason why he is MY President. Feels really good to be able to say that.

The man gives loyalty and inspires it in return.

25. I heard that.
Was quite surprised, as I thought they had to just "do their job". Nice that he felt he was part of the team to get him elected.

Parkinson's is a very cruel disease. It seemed like Lane wanted to express soooooo much, but simply couldn't.

13. This is a very moving video.....
This Congressman is a very visible example of what it can be like to have access to medical treatments that many American do not. It is my hope that when the insurance gang collects their attorneys to do battle to continue to be the gate keepers against our rights that this congressman will be an example of what should be the standard for all Americans.

I am running Fire Fox. It works in Real Player with a plug in but better in Windows Player 9.

This was extremely moving and with someone in my family with a chronic illness it really hit home. Showed that Barack doesn't leave his friends behind and wants them to share in his victories that they helped to form.

21. Another example of the kindness and thoughtfulness....
of president elect Obama. He went out of his way to include and thank this ailing congressman on a special night that many would have made all about themselves. He's genuine and kind, thoughtful and appreciative. What a departure from what we've had to endure for the last eight years.

Thank the gods that we stood together and proclaimed, Yes We Can! And now we can proudly stand up and declare, YES WE DID.

Thank You President Elect Barack Obama.

34. FOR MAC USERS: Some text from that interview
Silvis, IL -- Former Congressman Lane Evans has been in Barack Obama's corner since he ran for U-S Senate, and when the President-elect huddled with family and friends in a hotel room in Chicago to watch the election returns earlier this month, Lane Evans, again was there.

What did Obama want to say to Mr. Evans? ''He said, you know, I owe you a few, and I said yea, I know'', Evans said in an interview from his apartment in Silvis Thursday.

Accompanied to the Hyatt Hotel by a friend, and his friend and guardian Cher Erickson, a picture taken of that night is worth a thousand words. Erickson describes it like this.

''When he (Obama) walked into the room and he knelt down and took Lane's hand, and he said if it wasn't for you, Lane, I would not be where I am at today. And he said you've been the best friend anybody could ever have. It was was just so emotional for him and we all cried in the room, didn't we Lane?'', Erickson said, choking up all over again.

''There wasn't a dry eye, even the President-elect had tears in his eyes''

The popular 12 term Congressman was forced into early retirement by Parkinsons Disease. With a friend and fellow Democrat in the White House, it's tough for the political veteran to be on the sidelines.

''It's been harder in a way politically than it has ever been'', Evans said. To give up being a Congressman? ''Yes''.

But Evans is hopeful Obama will open the door for more stem cell research to try and find a cure for his disease.

Evans has good days and bad. Election night 2008, was great. ''I never had so much fun in my entire life'', Evans said.

The former Congressman is a huge Beatles fan. He has a picture of the time in 1976 when he met Paul McCartney, and he saw the Fab Four in concert back in the day. He likened the energy of the Grant Park rally for his friend to that experience.

''I saw the Beatles when I was a kid. The first thing I thought of was, it was like the Beatles coming to Chicago''

Evans and Erickson said they met a couple of celebrities that night. Brad Pitt, ''really nice'', Angelina Jolie, ''not so nice'', Oprah and her entourage.

In the end, before Evans left the Obama suite for the night, he and Erickson witnessed one more piece of history, when Obama was told, he had carried Florida.

How did Obama react? ''He sat there silently for a couple of minutes, one of his Secret Service men, said 'Sir, we just took Florida. He just sat there'', Erickson said. ''He was still holding Lane's hand, and said, 'we did it. we did it' ''.
