** HELP ** NEED SOME AMMO **
Got a bitter Repub neighbor who is making it his daily calling to take one issue and throwing it in my face because my Obama yard sign was victorious over his McCain sign. Not only that, I made a bet that if my guy wins, he has to rake or leaf blow my yard up until all the leaves are down.....

Guess what? ..... The leaves have been falling A LOT the past week and its time to pay the fiddler.

So here's his latest talking points:

- Obama won't be nearly as solid on national security as Bush has been for this country. Do you realize that no attacks have happened on our soil since 9/11/2001? People don't give Bush enough credit for that. (no kidding, he says this ..... So I need some good rebute material!)

and

- Obama's liberal swing to "SOCIALISM" will be the demise of this country! Socialism will be the biggest cancer this country has ever seen. (this is one I'm so damn tired of hearing you can't even imagine. I need some good stuff to put the flames out on this charge)

Thanks for any help ....

Ask him who is proposing that the government get ownership stakes in Freddie Mac and fannie Mae plus banks and the Big Three Automakers for bailing them out?

5. I suggest you rake your leaves this weekend, and forget about him.
He's not a good bet for a good friend, and if he blows your leaves away, he'll figure you owe him something else.

I think you can just give him a box of Christmas cookies, and leave it at that. Better friends out there!

Agree NOT to discuss politics anymore, and you'll be better neighbors. People like that are unsalvagable.

6. How about this:
point 1: I'm sorry you are so pessimistic about the The President Elect and future Commander-in-Chiefs possible national Security strength. I don't share yoru concerns. Time to pay your debt and rake the leaves.

point 2: Which always works for me - but ymmv - "please stop calling the President Elect a Socialist. I'm a Socialist and I resent the accusation that a Centrist Democrat is anywhere near as far left as I am. And incidentally? A socialist America is my wet dream - we'll finally be able to join the rest of the First World. Now please honor your bet and rake the fucking leaves."

10. Solid on national security?
To me, national security includes protecting the Constitution. Giving up rights that our Founding Fathers knew were the basis of a free society? That doesn't make ME feel very secure.

And as far as socialism goes, shrubya is the grandest of "socialists," but only for the folks making $5M plus. Witness the corporate bailout.

I agree--you need to do your own leaves. And for Christmas, buy the guy a copy of 1984 or Animal Farm or perhaps Paine's Common Sense so he can understand where our country comes from. And put some Ex-Lax in any chocolate chip cookies you want to share with him. I think they all need a good crap.

12. The first thing you must always do when discussing politics with the morans is ...
Edited on Fri Nov-14-08 06:45 PM by ColbertWatcher
... make them prove their claims. Whatever they say, your instinct should always be to doubt it.

Also, since this was a bet: make him prove his claims while fulfilling his losing end of the deal. He can rake leaves while he makes excuses for his stupid beliefs.

But, to answer your question: how's about this one?
a deputy commander of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps reveals that some actually fear that Obama's "soft attack" strategy of "negotiations without preconditions" to be "more dangerous" than the GOP's previous reliance on "hard conflict." (http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/11/the-weight-of-t.html)

In other words, the Iranians fear Obama more than they would have ever feared McCain.

(I saw that on Maddow's show and posted that snippet in my "Most Important News Story" thread (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=4459629&mesg_id=4459629))

15. I would say this:
The election is over, and like it or not Obama is now our president. Your party has been in control for eight years and in those eight years they have made an absolute mess of our country. Now it is our turn to clean up the mess that your party has created.

In eight years we have over 2000 of our young men and women have been killed, over 15,000 have been wounded, and 300 private contractors and 75 journalist have been killed. 41,000 U.S. marines and army troops reported that they believed they had killed at least one Iraqi civilian in the 15 months following the 2003 invasion.

Our national debt has sky rocketed out of control to an all time high of $10.6 Trillion dollars. It was only 5.7 Trillion before Bush took office eight years ago. Here is what caused it:

1. He lowered taxes on the rich (by far the biggest item).
2. He invaded Iraq instead of winning in Afghan-Pakistan.
3. He loosened controls on Wall Street.

The unemployment rate has went to a 14 year high of 6.5%, and with the current financial crisis this percentage will get far greater before it gets better. And my 401K and many others has lost 25% of its value.

It is now our turn to clean up the mess that your party created, which is going to be a very difficult thing to do. So don't blame us if it doesn't get better for a while, but wait and see where we are in four years, if our country can survive that long. Because it may be to late. But if anyone can do it Obama Can!

17. Who cares about your irrelevant neighbor
Ignoring these idiots is the best way to cause them to pop a cork and let others see just how nuts they are.

There is nothing any President could do to screw up as badly as Bush either in foreign policy or domestic policy. I am trying to be kind but I simply can't think of hardly anything Bush has said or done since he first ran in 1999 to the present day that is a net positive.

20. Why should they attack us here? They can kill our soldiers at will in
Afganistan and Iraq. And they're bleeding us dry monetarily. And we've had to give up all our civil rights.

Why would they bother to attack us again? They've already won thank's to the incredible incompetence and greed of the bush** admin. Hell, we even did their recruiting for 'em. Shock and Awe was a prize package wrapped up in a bloody red ribbon and just handed over to every terrorist group in the Middle East.

21. Remind him that, not only were there no terrorist attacks on U.S. soil
after March 1993 by what he defines as "terrorist attacks", but Bush was in office for 8 months at the time of the attack, and tried to blame it all on the previous administration ... which Clinton never did ...

and also that, when Clinton was actually trying to do something about terrorists, your neighbor's party was saying that he was trying to distract the country from the really important security matters ... the opening and closing of a President's zipper ...

23. There may be other explanations
as to why we have not been attacked.

1. Bin Laden got what he wanted which was our troops out of Saudi Arabia. Bush removed our troops from what bin Laden considers sacred ground.
2. They don't have to attack us here. All they have to do is send off a video tape and they have a good portion of America quaking in its collective boots. We are spending ourselves into unprecidented debt thanks to this "War on Terror." Our country is on the verge of financial collapse and although the War in Iraq is only part of it, it plays a good sized role.

As far as the socialism charge, Bush has nationalized more institutions than Hugo Chavez. He's grown the governemnt more than any democrat ever did.

Assuming Obama will fail has a certain subtext of hoping that he will fail. Why anyone would want our president to fail is beyond me. There is too much at stake. I never wanted Bush to fail. I would have been more than happy if he had turned out to be the greatest president ever. However, he was a disaster from early on and it just got worse and worse. But I wouldn't wish the mess we're in on anyone and take no pleasure that BushCo brought us to this point.

24. We have not been attacked again perhaps because no one has
planned one; if they had Bush's incompetence would not have stopped it. There really are not that many humans that would do a thing like 911. There is no reason to presume there are many people planning another.

They and the country survived Clinton. Equating liberal Democrat with Socialist is ignorant, but if they must expand the meaning of the word "socialism" than why did this country do so well under the "socialist" Clinton? This is RW hate radio BS. They should look the word up in the dictionary.

26. Point out that they didn't NEED to attack us again...
...Bin Laden knew that the US would shit its proverbial pants if the attack was successful, and that we would rob OURSELVES of liberties, trash our military, ruin our economy and destroy OURSELVES. It's STILL working, so why go to the risk and trouble of staging another attack?

That is, if he was actually behind the attack in the first place...
