Is there a single happy person at MSNBC, CBS, NBC, CNN, The New York Times? (warning, Palinicky)
There had to have been a memo to the repunks. This "the libruls are angry and unhappy and bitter" bullshit cliche disturbs me on so many levels. I have a hard time putting it into words. I'd love to hear what other DUers think.

One of the nagging questions of this election is the emotional, almost violent, reaction of Obama supporters to Sarah Palin. The absurd and offensive verbal abuse hurled at Palin has been unprecedented, and the mainstream media has led the charge. But why?

snip

Why do they hate her so much? She's happy. Unhappy people can't stand happy people.

As others have noted, Obama rallies are not happy events. Neither is the Obama campaign. There is an angry tone, a desire for revenge against those who supposedly have done the people wrong, a settling of old scores. While Obama preaches hope, the "subtext" of his campaign is anger and frustration. For all the times I have seen Obama on television, only once or twice have I seen him laugh.

Read the rest of this nonsense here, and feel free to comment. Hee!
http://legalinsurrection.blogspot.com/2008/10/why-do-they-hate-her-so-much-shes-happy.html

Is this line of "reasoning" any worse than any other nonsensical spew from the rwers, or am I just over-reacting?

6. Palin doesn't strike me as happy.
Rather, as a person who's trying to make the best of a bad situation and take advantage of a 15 minutes of fame that's gone on for far too long.

As for those of us who voted for Obama...we're happy!

23. I haven't been happier about a presidential election outcome
in my entire life. If I'm angry about Palin being happy, it's because she's a hate-mongering, race-baiting, simple-minded, nonsense-talking, pity-seeking, hypocritical villain who is not only "happy" about it, but downright proud of herself. Now that's infuriating.

Pathetic.

And did anything I wrote give you the idea that I support the assertion? I'd say perhaps I didn't make my point, but I don't see any other reply suggesting that.

Now you, otoh, seem to be an example of the wingnutblog-broken-clock being right twice a day.

38. Is that verboten here at DU? Isn't it good to keep tabs on the
enemy. I just happened upon that blogpost and it brought up an issue that's bothered me for a while now. That whole "you're bitter" "you're unhappy" and that's why you object to (insert any right wing travesty here)" crap. Something about that line of attack makes me furious and I was hoping to hear what DUers think and how they might articulate what I'm not quite able to, in terms of why that's such a vile assertion.

I'm new here, so I guess I'm open to suspicion, but please check out any of my posts so far and you'll see I'm *not* the enemy.

I can take pix of my "Thanks for Donating to the Obama campaign" emails if that would help. Now I wish I'd taken some of our Obama paraphernalia-laden living room before we cleaned up yesterday!

9. Here's what I think:
"Sitting here in these chairs that I’m going to be proposing but in working with these governors who again on the front lines are forced to and it’s our privileged obligation to find solutions to the challenges facing our own states every day being held accountable, not being just one of many just casting votes or voting present every once in a while, we don’t get away with that."

That's my answer & I'm sticking with it!

I am a pragmatist. Obama's not perfect, but his intelligence, judgement, and fearlessness are by far bettter than what we have now. I am content to give the guy an honest chance and some time. It's the least a patriotic American can do. There's only one reality- the only thing that can kill you is death. And it's inevitable. Be happy and let the man do his job.

28. On several levels, you have it wrong.
First, the "kill him" reference was supposedly at a McCain/Palin rally, not at an Obama rally. Secondly, the SS at that rally said that it did not happen, that there was no shout of "kill him", and, finally, at no time did anyone imply seriously that she was "race baiting". Facts are facts.

What is true is that she called Bill Ayers a terrorist and called Obama a friend of his. I think the accurate name nowadays, would be "an aging terrorist" to denote that he possibly might be a changed person because he is older and more wise. So, she forgot to put in the "old" or "aged" moniker. Also, last time I checked, a terrorist could be any color, so this name-calling was not racist. Just sayin.

16. I've heard a couple on pundit panels get gushy
about Obama rallies and comparing them to Palin rallies.

It was the happiness and togetherness of the diverse crowds at Obama campaigns...all ages and races and not divided up but all having smiles and hugs for each other...and how tears would run down their face as they'd...can't remember if it was singing the anthem or saying the pledge of allegiance...but such a moving display of patriotism

Guys on the panel would be almost embarrassed as they'd speak and see one of the others smiling and say "I know this sounds silly" but the smiler would say "No, I know what you mean" and add their own story
They did not get the same feeling at all from McCain/Palin events.

39. Exactly! How do they dare even make such claims?! I know they're
pathological liars and all, but often about things that are a little less transparent! Who buys into this?

Again, I'm new to paying such a huge amount of attention to politics, and I guess I'm just being shocked by some of the things I'm learning. And believe me, I had no illusions before that things were bad, RWers were evil, etc. Still, some things really blow my mind. That whole blog post was a perfect example.

If anything, the American people are pissed, that here is this marginally-coherent, underqualified, sadly uninformed person, with a realistic shot at being Vice President of The United States. Meanwhile, here I am, an overeducated, underemployed, underpaid rube who is lucky to have a job.
I would be at least as good a VP than Sarah Palin! I'd be terrible, but I wouldn't be any worse than her!

30. Want to talk about unhappy events? The GOP Convention was one snide, grousy complaint after another.
Rudy Guiliani -of all people- making hyuk hyuk jokes about Obama being "cosmopolitan". Sarah Palin dissing everyone with more than a double digit IQ. Bitch, Bitch, Piss, Piss, Moan, Moan. Cheesy cheap shot, dumb-cluck aphorism, toss out a little GodGunsGays red meat for the base. Division, Fear, Hate. Rinse, Repeat.

If Sarah Palin was "happy", it was only because she got some new clothes.

The GOP is a party of fucking dinosaurs- terrified of reality, terrified of those who are "different", terrified of the future.

It's not reasoning, it's bullshit, and it's projection.
