Fears grow for Barack Obama's security
When Barack Obama gave his acceptance speech behind a thick screen of bulletproof glass it was a sign of the huge security operation which will surround the new President Elect.

Fears are growing that Mr Obama, who will become America's first black president following his inauguration next year, will be the subject of an assassination attempt.

The secret service is reported to have already investigated more than 500 death threats against Mr Obama during the presidential election contest. Last month, two neo-Nazi skinheads were arrested for conspiring to assassinate Mr Obama.

He is expected to be protected by a secret service detail with hundreds of close-protection agents. Over the past few weeks, the US government has also begun secretly testing a new ultra-secure presidential limousine able to withstand most bomb blasts and terror attacks. Details of his movements will be a closely guarded secret for all but his most senior aides.

The scale of US presidential security is already on a different scale to that for British Prime Ministers with huge motorcades accompanying US presidents when they leave the White House.

2. Incredible!
That in our country the president has to take such precautions. Finally we have an intelligent caring president and some idiots want to assassinate him. Why is it that no one tried to do in stupid during all the years he has been president and wrecking havoc on the country.

4. 'stupid' was just as protected; remember the last inauguration?
It was like a military operation rolling down the parade route. And he does live in a bubble. I don't see Obama living like that but it will sadly take a lot of security to protect him from the crazies.

5. All that hate incited by the Palin hate rallies
She incited the crazies who already had a tough time dealing with their prejudices. Now we have to worry about the crazies killing another great leader.

7. I would take a bullet for Barack.
But I'd rather have 5 minutes with a skinhead and a 9 iron.

.... it's something about if you live in fear you're not really living. I've Googled and Googled and can't find it.

Anyway, I'm not about to let fear of something that may never happen dampen my enjoyment of the next 8 years. NONE of us are promised a tomorrow. All we can do is make the most of today.

10. Only ONE Assassination Attempt? I don't think so.
Americans are buying up assault weapons, and people think he's a babykiller, anti-Christ, muslim-terrorist...

Nah, there won't just be ONE.
