I have never, in my life, felt this way before
I don't post much here because of my depression and anxiety. But, believe me, I am here all the time. For some reason I feel compelled to share this with all of you.

A huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders. It feels like this unbelievable new President is going to help me personally. Isn't that strange? I feel safe now. At least for today, I have NO anxiety. Just joy and thankfulness. The last eight years have been such a depressing nightmare that I'm almost surprised I survived it.

I have new hope for the state of the mental health system. I don't have to be afraid anymore that those of us that need help are not going to have anywhere to turn. Obama will make sure there is help for everyone. I know this. Soon, I won't have to read about the horrors of the war, the lies of the * administration, the neglect of entire US cities, how the bottom line in this country is money. Or the latest ass screwing us poor slobs are getting from Washington.

Well, I'm certainly no "writer" but, I just wanted everyone to know how much I cherish DU. And that for the first time in my life I feel "Hope".

Yes, we can.

3. May your Hope spring eternal.
I started feeling hopeful a week ago, tomorrow. So I wrote this...

Drinking Gin, in a Hot Tub, in the Rain. 4AM.

Couldn't sleep.

At a cottage in the redwoods, right outside of Larkspur, California.

Up on the hill, no sound but the rain and a snoring dog.

Went outside with a bottle of Bombay Sapphire Gin, right out of the freezer.

Walked around on the deck, smoking and drinking and thinking.

Rain dripping out of huge trees, just like it has always done.

Just like it has always done.

But something's different, this time.

Really different.

Sitting in 100 degree swirling water, cold raindrops in my hair.

Thinking...

All of those old trees...

That old house...

Will all be new, next week.

Gonna be a New World, America.

Gonna be a New World.

Anyway, that's what I was thinking...

Drinking gin, in a hot tub at 4AM, in the rain.

Tom

Print it out.

Carry it around. When you need it, read it.

My treat, my gift to you.

Gladly given.

6. Sometimes I think I have been clinically depressed since the 2000 election.
And now it's just this huge relief.

7. I really appreciate this. You did good in posting this. I have two loved ones who, for years and
years, have also been suffering from depression and anxiety. And I can totally relate to your post. Thanks and best wishes for you. Let me know if I can help somehow. I'm getting pretty good at it.

9. Big Pharma isn't going to like it
They have made Billions over the last eight years peddling meds for stress related disorders.

15. I know how you feel.
I, too, have anxiety/depression problems. This election has nearly wrecked me with worry. Then on Monday, I found out I'm losing my job on the 14th. I have an interview tomorrow, and those always give me crazy performance anxiety.

Normally, I'd be panicking, and I am a little worried, but last night has lifted me SO MUCH. Any time the stress and worry gets too heavy, the mantra that restores my stability is "President Barack Obama".

Yes, *I* can.

17. It takes a while to decompress
after eight years of HELL!!!

And I can watch the news again! I sat on the couch like a blob all day today and watched MSM nitwits on every channel say "President Elect Obama" over and over. Totally delicious.
