Would Al Franken be good for the US Senate ??
Would he dress up like one of the characters he played on Saturday Night Live? Which one would be best? Would this type of levity be too much for the dignified Senate to handle?

For some reason, it just seemed like a delicious thought... :)

1. I think he would bring an intellect that Coleman is sorely missing.

3. This is what I came here to post.
Franken has proven himself to be a good student.

4. He certainly would be an improvement over Coleman.
You know I can't think of what characters he played on SNL.

6. Stuart Smalley is the only "character" as far as I know.
In the very earliest days he worked with Tom Davis, and they always did their bits as "Franken and Davis". Franken wasn't never one of the regular sketch actors on SNL.

5. He'll be a hell of a Senator
(God willing and good turnout). Al is absolutely up to the task and I'll be proud to have him as my Senator.

12. Agreed. Al Franken is committed to the truth, with jokes.
I liked his AAR show, where he would get extremely wonky with people like David Sirota and Joe Conason, then turn around and do bits like sending his producer to some Deep South BBQ joint so the patrons could talk to Al - I think he called it "Ask a Jew a Question" or something like that. Then he'd get on a plane to do a USO tour in Iraq. He has heart and soul and brains, and would make a great addition to the Senate.

9. He will have interesting and cool things to say to ass hats like
Tom Coburn or his idiot colleague from Oklahoma Jim Inhoff. Franken is a pretty well rounded person intellectually.

Since he used to do such a spot on imitation of Senator Paul Simon from Illinois...that would be a good one. Maybe reading singer Paul Simon's lyrics to "Kodachrome" in Senator Paul Simon's voice and typical bow tie.

11. Bill O'Reilly gets flustered and whiny everytime Franken is mentioned. Isn't that reason enough?

17. I love the prospect of Al Franken in the US Senate
I think Al would be a lot more courageous than the run-of-the-mill senator. He'd speak out and go to the wall for the things he thinks need to be accomplished.

It occurred to me that now that Ted Kennedy is fading as a leading advocate of social legislation -- through no fault of his own -- due to his age and health challenges -- Al Franken would take up those same battles into the 21st century.

Minnesota has sent a number of key players to the Senate -- Hubert Humphrey, Walter Mondale, Eugene McCarthy, Paul Wellstone.... Al Franken would fit right in, and I fervently hope that Minnesotans choose to send him there.

18. I agree with you

Al would speak out and fight like Kennedy.
Really hoping he's elected.

19. It doesn't even matter whether he would be any good, frankly.
A Senate without the Coleman Suck is a better Senate.
