against Barnicle and Shrum and the bizarre comment about Mika he mischaracterized the AP Poll. Joe kept talking about 14% undecided and that they were likely to break overwhelmingly for McCain. That is not what the poll said. It talked about "persuadables" some of whom were still undecided but more who indicated a preference for a candidate but might still change their mind before E-Day.
Some might dismiss the difference as mere semantics but using Joe's formulation allows one to make the bogus argument that the race is tightening and that there is a McCain trend out there that will stun the pundits.
Well there may be a big surprise. We won't know until Tuesday (hopefully early). For a seasoned political pro like Joe to fudge the poll results and neglect to mention that Obama had an 8 point lead in a survey he was using to generate GOP optimism, there had to be either a failure of communication to him of the actual results or just plain dissembling on his part.
I emailed Joe to ask him whether he had Cheetos stuck in his ears and that's how he so badly mangled the poll. Maybe he will call me out on the air Monday. It would be a badge of honor.
