PPP: Franken 45 Coleman 40
Edited on Thu Oct-30-08 11:24 PM by FreeState
http://publicpolicypolling.blogspot.com/2008/10/minnesota-senate-franken-leads.html

The race for US Senate in Minnesota is close, but Al Franken has a definite lead at this juncture in the contest.

Franken and Coleman are doing a roughly equally good job of holding onto each of their party's voters. Coleman gets 85% of Republicans and Franken is earning 81% support from Democrats. That's important because it's an indicator that Barkley is pulling roughly equally from each party, a different conclusion than some other recent polling has found. 55% of Barkley's support is coming from independent voters, and he's running pretty close to the major party candidates with that demographic- Coleman is at 35%, Franken 34%, and Barkley is getting 26%.

Only 76% of Obama voters are planning to vote for Franken, quite a difference from the 85% of McCain supporters going for Coleman. But with Obama headed for a dominant victory in the state, it looks like as of today his coattails would be enough to bring Franken across the finish line. What impact the lawsuit Coleman filed against Franken today and whatever else happens in the last five days of the election has remains to be seen.

4. A poll came out yesterday that had Franken losing by 3. Things bouncing around in Minn?
Or is one of the polls just bad?

Either way, GOD I'd love it if Franken wins!

11. These polls all come down to how they calculate party affliation.
That's why we can't be sure of any of them. It's best to average them and look at trends.

13. It's called Margin of Error - they are essentially tied!
This one will be fun to watch on election day (assuming Obama is doing OK)

17. This has been such a while knuckle campaign. Ugh.

I managed to convince the owners of my company, who are voting for Obama, to vote for Franken, because of a personal "skirt chasing" anecdote I have about Coleman. They had no idea about the "open secret" about Coleman's philandering until I told them about an experience I had, and then they saw, in a TPT interview the bold question asked of Coleman if he has been faithful to his wife. Well his political non answer that he "loves his wife" confirmed for them what I told them, and they were able to get over Franken's "off color" humor, since I had informed them that Franken is indeed, the "family man" out of the two couples. What an uphill battle this has been.

Obama's polling doesn't translate to Franken winning, and this is frustrating. The owners of my company are very smart, but even they were falling for some of the "Al Franken writes rape jokes" BS. I'm glad we have this good news, because the nastiness of the Coleman camp should not be rewarded by a return to the Senate, and that jerk occupying Senator Wellstone's seat.

On Edit: Thank you President Clinton for stumping for Franken and Obama. :bounce: I think that could make a HUGE difference here.

I am sure. Not by a lot, but he will win. O is running very strong here, and with Bill (always popular here) O himself and the great ad that Hillary cut, I am convinced he is going to eke it out. Thanks again, Bill and Hill!! :hi:

25. Coleman's got a scandal now.
$75K funneled illegally into his campaign which will hit the MN news cycles today, and show how his "law suit" against Franken for slander or some such nonsense was just an attempt to deflect attention.

BTW, he filed suit in '98 and '02 against his opponents in the final days before election for the same reasons. Hubert Humphrey III and Paul Wellstone. He is scum.

HE IS GOING DOWN!!!!

claiming that he's *not* the 4th most corrupt Senator is DELICIOUS.
