Medicare Rates to Jump 17%
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A3994-2004Sep7.html

Looks like the Medicare bill in December wasn't such a good thing for American seniors after all.

The Bush Administration waited until Friday afternoon to release this information hoping that everyone had left for the long weekend and no one would notice. They do this a lot with EPA rollbacks as well. If they release it Friday afternoon you can bet it's something they don't want people to know.

4. This Wasn't An Accident..It Was Caused By Republican Bill
Although I haven't seen a thorough analysis, I suspect that part of the increase if because seniors, under this new bill, will be subsidizing privatization, that is the creation of "private" HMOs to "compete" with Medicare. Of course they have to be subsidized or they wouldn't enter the market.

I'm waiting for the analysis...
