Quinnipiac Oct 29 Poll:FL: Obama 47 - McCain 45; OH: Obama 51 - McCain 42; PN: Obama 53 - McCain 41
FLORIDA, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA TIGHTEN UP IN FINAL WEEK,
QUINNIPIAC UNIVERSITY SWING STATE POLL FINDS;
OBAMA OUT FRONT, BUT FLORIDA IS TOO CLOSE TO CALL
---
FLORIDA: Obama 47 – McCain 45;
OHIO: Obama 51 – McCain 42;
PENNSYLVANIA: Obama 53 – McCain 41

With six days to go Sen. Barack Obama is holding off what appears to be a too-little, too-late move by Republican Sen. John McCain in Ohio and Pennsylvania, but the Democrat’s two-point lead among likely voters in Florida leaves that state too close to call, according to simultaneous Quinnipiac University Swing State polls released today.

9. That demographic is changing, though
The evidence of this is that Ros-Letinen and the Diaz-Balart boys are in competitive races this year.

15. I don't think the Cubans are nearly as pre-rethug as they once were.
Not sure why. Could be the decline of Castro, or maybe the ridiculous anti-immigrant stand the rethugs have taken has backfired. Actually, I'm just remembering reading that the younger Cubans have soured on the rethugs, yeah, that's definitely part of it.

But there are also lots of new, non-Cuban latinos in Florida now and they are generally pro-Democrat.

20. The older Cubans (the ones who came after the revolution) never forgave JFK
Edited on Wed Oct-29-08 06:59 PM by OmahaBlueDog
They never forgave JFK for the Bay of Pigs or not invading during the missile crisis. Those that came during Mariel lagrely took their cues from the older group.

We're about 3 generations removed from that now, and the younger generation lives in a big city that has big city problems. They want more cops, better schools, and access to health care.

2. Don't like the FL poll.
The rest are good. I definitely think after tonight Obama will extend his FL lead to 10% or so.

6. Me too! I am in shock today over Ohio's #'s in all these battleground polls.
The national race can tighten a few points here and there but if Ohio keeps looking better and better I am one happy gal.

4. And one more reminder
Kerry (anyone think he was running a better campaign than Obama?) lost only ONE state where he was favored one week out - CO.

He was ahead in that poll by only 1%.

KERRY IN 2004
OBAMA IN 2008

8. Their 2004 map and data reported today about 2004 don't seem to match
I pulled my data from their chart showing Kerry polls and eventual results to Obama's polls about 3/4 of the way down their front page. It showed Kerry trailing in OH and IA by 1 and 3% respectively at this time last cycle. Both were close though, so I'm sure it depends on which polls are included.

11. They often don't update their map until the next morning
So, polls from one day show up on the next day map.

13. How the heck is 51 to 42 and 53 to 41 "tightening" for McCain?
I keep hearing all the news nutties say that the race is tightening, followed by polls that still show Obama comfortably ahead.

What the hell are they talking about?

(And, it was always tight in Florida).

14. Quinnipiac polls had larger leads in previous polls
Problem is, they were larger than the average in the last poll, now they are "tightening" in their polling, but the lead is quite substantial still. As they state - "too little, too late".
