The most ironic, nerve-wracking election night with a happy ending...
Edited on Tue Oct-28-08 10:44 PM by Kurt_and_Hunter
(An unlikely but ironic scenario, not a prediction of any sort!)

Election Night.

The first polls close and Virginia and Indiana are called fairly quickly for Obama and McCain, respectively.

North Carolina stays Red. Florida also. Then Ohio and Missouri. And two hours after polls close Pennsylvania is still too close to call.

Then a triple dose of bad news. McCain wins CO, the networks call Pennsylvania red and McCain pulls out a shocker in New Mexico.

Freepers go wild!

Obama wins the Omaha district but that one EV from Nebraska is cold comfort.

But something odd happens... Las Vegas and Phoenix, the two fastest declining housing markets in America outside California, go MONSTER for Obama.

Nevada goes blue. Arizona goes blue.

California, Oregon and Washington are safely blue. McCain is sitting at 268 EV to Obama's 268 EV.

All eyes turn to Montana's 3 EV. It's a late night, but Obama pulls out Montana by 500 votes.

Obama wins!

4. Yeah, but we'd never have to hear about Gore losing his home state again!

2. If McCain wins PA, it's because of blackbox voting machines...
...which didn't accurately reflect the will of the voters.

5. You've got a loose definition of "actually possible"
PA goes red but AZ and MT blue? Don't think so. Only likely 269 tie is if only NV switches.

9. You're conflating likely and possible
It's a very unlikely scenario, but is not absurd. (Unlike a scenario where McCain won Illinois but lost Alabama.)

6. Nice, but I'd rather see
Nebraska, being one of the states that can split an electoral, will make the deciding vote with the 2nd district going for Obama, thus redeeming Nebraska of the title of "THE NEW SOUTH".

11. Come on NE! I'd love to see that. I asked electoral-vote.com to reflect

that possibility but they dismissed it. I had asked that they show NE-02 as leans-R or Weak-R but they said no go. That it wasn't close.

:-(

12. I like your suggestion. Changed it to a clean 1 EV win w/ Omaha

13. No, it's coming from YOU...
All you're doing is making a squeaker out of what should be an easy win.

IMHO, if Pennsylvania doesn't go to Obama (and fairly quickly, too), there's virtually NO way we win. Period.
