36. All very cute, except Tom Cruise, who is a Scientologist asshole.
Edited on Tue Oct-28-08 08:34 AM by gauguin57
Shills for a cult (based on a sci-fi writer's made-up crap) that brainwashes people and takes massive amounts of their money, and then harrasses them beyond all reason (and the law) if they try to leave. They fight against psychiatric intervention for people because they want to "audit" them themselves and take their money. They're responsible for people's deaths, and the ruination of many lives. And anytime reporters try to expose them, they make their lives a living hell.

Just can't even look at the man's picture without puking.

I'm glad Tom's voting for Obama, but Obama doesn't need any of his damned dirty Scientologist money.

And yes, I'm going to be a Scientology deprogrammer in my next life!

93. It's absolutely the Scientology that bothers me, because they're celebrity shills for a cult
that victimizes people and harrasses anyone who questions anything they're doing.

So Travolta, Kelly Preston, Cruise and Holmes, Giovanni Ribisi, Jason Lee, Beck, Chick Correa, Jenna Elfman ... the whole lot of them ... are walking, smiling, famous billboards for this corrupt cult. Xenu can kiss my behind.

This famous Time piece from 1991 is what made me so rabidly anti-Scientology -- and it's the celebrity shills that make this bunch of law-breaking, mind-controling thieves look legitimate. If you've never read it, read it after the election's over.

101. "Religion," my Aunt Fanny.
A church, temple, mosque, whatever -- such as one that takes in money through the collection plate, but helps build homes or supports food banks, etc ... and gives people some spiritual comfort ... cool by me and cool by the Constitution.

But a cult like Scientology (or some of these mega-church televangelists) uses sophisticated brainwashing techniques to take massive amounts of people's money -- and has done all sorts of ILLEGAL and immoral stuff (breaking into reporters' homes, kidnapping people and holding them incommunicado from their families -- one mentally unstable woman killed herself by jumping out the window in Flordia after being deprived of food and water AND any basic psychiatric care -- filing multiple false lawsuits against people with no money to fight them, etc. -- that's a whole different deal in my book. They are not a church but an organized crime syndicate. And the celebrity shills are the pretty window dressing that makes it an acceptable "church" to the outside world. YUCK.

The day they were given the IRS exemption as a "church" was a dark, dark day. It's like giving a religious tax break to the fucking Mafia.

And, BTW, I don't believe Christianity's "far-out stories" either.

It's pretty funny. He's had people ask for his autograph, try to pass him scripts, tell him much they enjoy his movies and just gawk at him. He always has to tell them he's not Cusack. His wife loves it though. She has a great looking husband and, as stupid as it sounds, just because he looks like Cusack they get good tables at restaurants.

Edited on Tue Oct-28-08 10:34 AM by charlyvi

Daniel Craig has heaped praise on presidential candidate Barack Obama - branding the Democratic hopeful "exciting".

The actor, who is set to reprise his role as suave British spy James Bond in new movie Quantum of Solace later this year, believes Obama is pushing things in the right direction.

He tells Playboy magazine, "I strongly feel there needs to be a new way forward.

"Barack Obama is pushing things in the right direction. I'm excited about the election. Unfortunately, things will probably get dirty.

"I hope Obama can stay above the fray … I’m hopeful for the first time in a long, long while. It’s one of the most exciting elections in my lifetime."

i love fathers that connect. why i like obama and his interaction with children so much. 11 yr old son was watching a video last night of obama talking to a 5th grader and he told me this is why obama is going ot when. cause he takes kids seriously.

and why i dislike palin so. cause she doesnt connect as a mom. HUGE turn off

108. It is a beautiful thing
When Barack and Michelle interact with their kids you can tell there is a strong bond there. Not so with McCain and Palin. Their interactions with their kids seem contrived and unfamiliar.

fwiw, one of the reasons I love my husband is because whenever he sees his kids his first reaction is to throw open his arms, give them a hug and tell them how much he loves them.

i guess we will see a respectful appreciation of males, and trashing females?

i think it all depends of the flavor of the thread one develops on how offensive it is.

btw: over the years we have had a number of threads on beautiful women speaking out for dems, and there havent been issues. 2004 it was a big to do....

it is all in the respect

I had an older cousin & he & his girlfriend were going to see him. I don't know why he agreed to take me with them, but I'll never forget it!! The next morning, we took his girlfriend to the airport & after seeing her plane off, we ran into Neil in the main terminal. I was tongue tied, but thrilled! My cousin got his autograph - one for each of us!

Thanks for posting these great pics!! And have a great time at the concert!!

but he's been in movies like "Copycat", "Independence Day" and "Little Man Tate". If you've ever seen the movie "When Harry Met Sally" you've heard him sing.

He's originally from New Orleans (his dad was, iirc, was the DA after Garrison of "JFK" fame) and he's returned there many times before and after Katrina for the benefit of the community. I remember when he and others were working with Habitat for Humanity helping to build homes post-Katrina. He appears to be an all-around, talented, good guy.

137. I submit
Jason Alexander..by words alone.

"Seinfeld Actor, Jason Alexander Rallies Jewish Voters in Crucial Swing State, Florida"

<snip> <snip>

"That might be why Alexander is so serious about his latest role -- as a celebrity spokesman for Obama. Indeed, this week he joined the growing list of celebrities campaigning here, taking his place alongside personalities on the left and right, including Matt Damon, Alicia Silverstone, Elizabeth Hasselback -- engaging in Florida's Election 2008 "Star Wars." Alexander, however, is a celebrity spokesman not so comfortable with the celebrity part. He is a man with a bold-faced name who's not afraid to admit that "celebrities aren't any smarter than anyone else. In fact, they're often dumber."

Not Alexander, though, who's as smart and as thoughtful as he is famous and funny. Just check the way he presided over what might best be described as a town hall meeting at Florida International University's Kovens Conference Center on Sunday, when he and a posse that included Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, State Rep. Dan Gelber and Ambassador Dennis Ross addressed how best the largely Jewish crowd could convince their largely Jewish counterparts to come around to Obama."

142. Gregory Peck
http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV5BMjA3NjQ1NDE3NV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwNzA4NjEyMQ@@._V1._SX100_SY140_.jpg

He was a Liberal's liberal and a major activist throughout his life.

"In 1947, while many Hollywood figures were being blacklisted for similar activities, he signed a letter deploring a House Un-American Activities Committee investigation of alleged communists in the film industry.

President Richard Nixon placed Peck on his enemies list due to his liberal activism.<9><10>

A lifelong supporter of the Democratic Party, Peck was suggested in 1970 as a possible Democratic candidate to run against Ronald Reagan for the office of Governor of California. Although he later admitted that he had no interest in being a candidate himself for public office, Peck encouraged one of his sons, Carey Peck, to run for political office. Carey was defeated both times he tried for Congress, in 1978 and in 1980, by Republican Congressman Robert K. Dornan, both times by slim margins.

In an interview with the Irish media, Peck revealed that former President Lyndon Johnson had told him that, had he sought re-election in 1968, he intended to offer Peck the post of U.S. ambassador to Ireland — a post Peck, due to his Irish ancestry, said he might well have taken, saying "t would have been a great adventure".<11><12> Author Michael Freedland, in his biography of Peck, substantiates the report and says that Johnson indicated that his presentation of the Medal of Freedom to Peck would perhaps make up for his inability to confer the ambassadorship.<13>

Peck's liberal beliefs were frequently reflected by his work. The Big Country was intended as a pacifist allegory for the Cold War, while The Guns of Navarone was considered very anti-war for a major American movie of its time.

He was outspoken against the Vietnam War, while remaining supportive of his son, Stephen, who was fighting there. In 1972, Peck produced the film version of Daniel Berrigan's play The Trial of the Catonsville Nine about the prosecution of a group of Vietnam protesters for civil disobedience. Despite his initial reluctance to portray the controversial General Douglas MacArthur on screen, he did so in 1977 and ended up with a great admiration for the man.

In 1987, Peck did the voice over on television commercials opposing President Ronald Reagan's Supreme Court nomination of conservative jurist Robert Bork. Bork's nomination was defeated."

157. Oh goody!!!!
I'm not alone!

I didn't realize how controversial Gentleman's Agreement was at the time and he was advised against being a part of it. He was told he'd never work again, but he went ahead with it anyway. The irony is he was told people would think he was really Jewish and wouldn't go to his movies - a mirror of the movie itself. Unfortunately it did have a terrible effect on Garfield and his family.

He was Atticus Finch in person and on film.

Gentleman's Agreement gives me chills and Mockingbird makes me bawl.

And, among all those much-older men they paired Audrey Hepburn with on film, Roman Holiday (with gorgeous Greg and lovely Audrey) is adorable.

198. I just read that about "Scout"
He must have been a great friend.

My favorite scene in Roman Holiday was when he stuck his hand in that stone mouth. Hepburn didn't know what he was going to do, so her reaction was REAL.

Mockingbird - "Jean Louise. Jean Louise, stand up. Your father's passing." Chokes me up every time! (Misty eyed just typing it)

... I was BAWLING over that "your father's passing" scene ... like, SOBBING on the plane ... trying to hide my face from the passengers next to me. It was Mockingbird and Finding Nemo back to back (London-to-NYC flight), and I just couldn't stop crying. When Dory tells Nemo's dad he seems like "home" to her ... bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Its funny, it didn't affect me years ago when I saw the movie. It was recently for me too.

Truly a great moment in movies.
