Los Angeles County only has ONE early voting location!
And it's in NORWALK, central to nowhere but Norwalk! This is a Democratic city! Why is this?

1. i wondered why too.
I knew that was true, and then a friend in Orange County said there were a lot of early voting places in the OC.

Must be a county by county decision.

2. Norwalk is where the county voter registrar office is at

I think that probably has something to do with it. Not sure why there's only one location though.

3. Unlike Many States, California Does Not Require Good Cause For Mail-In Voting
I guess you could do early voting in California, but given that you can permanently do absentee, why?

5. It's just to drop off an absentee ballot right?
I didn't think there was true "early voting" outside the absentee process...

6. Vote by mail.
It's easier on some many levels.

7. its money

san mateo county has two early voting locations.

counties are hard strapped for cash people - an early voting location is office space that must be leased, furnished, insured, serviced, and staffed. landlords don't like 1 month leases. staff must be trained and then laid off. why set up all those locations with all that sunk cost when voting absentee is a piece of cake in california?

i don't think this is an issue. let's see what happens on election day. that's where I hope the county resources are being applied.

8. Greg Palast warns...
...that absentee voting is MUCH more susceptible to vote fraud. I don't know - do you think I'm safe from this in California? Should I just mail my ballot in?

9. i'm permanent absentee voter (since 2003), it's terrific
i mail it in and check the website later to see that it was received. if not, i can get another ballot or vote in person if need be.

i get my ballot a month ahead of the election, i fill it out at my leisure then drop it in the mail (usually in a mail box that's about to have a pickup), then the county website can be checked to verify receipt of it.

i've even filled out my ballot and dropped it off at the polls on election day which was better than voting in person.

as long as the ballot i sent is received by the county, why should i worry?
