Good Bye And Keep Cold

This saying goodbye on the edge of the dark
And cold to an orchard so young in the bark

How often already you've had to be told,
Keep cold, young orchard. Goodbye and keep cold.

23. My God. Shame on you George Bush
and shame on the felonious five supremes who appointed Bush emperor. To think how many thousands would be alive today if Gore were president.

31. I wish you wouldnt, and I would like to ask that you dont
use their names in the way you have. I and other service members find it to be dishonerable to their memories and to their families. I am not one on that list but if I was I would hope that people I didnt know, would not use my death or memory for this.

39. That list
is from the Iraq Coalition Casualty Count site, details page.

http://icasualties.org/oif/Details.aspx

The site will continue to list every soldier killed in Iraq (and Afghanistan, on a separate site).

The list is compiled from Centcom and DOD releases; as such, it is public domain information and contains only official release information.

The list is not compiled to be "dishonorable", but rather to honor those fallen, and the site receives letters, calls, and emails daily from families thanking us for doing so.

I'm sorry you feel it's dishonorable.

45. I don't want you to feel sorry for me.
I am not objecting the site or the list. I am objecting the use of the names as a political rallying object. I understand anyone who feels that they want to honor those that fell and they have the right to honor them. But I object to the use of those fallen when individual names are brought out for the use of political means. I wouldn't object to people saying "1000 soldiers killed!" because that would be a fact and no one name or group of names would be a focal point. I lost friends there. I will always remember them for their sacrifices, bravery and dedication to their service of the US armed forces. I will not however focalize on their deaths as a means for political sway. As I would object to my name being used not to mention my wife's objections. I served my country in honor and my fellow service men served in honor. The military serves the ideal of freedom, not a political party. I have mourned the memories of comrades in Bosnia, Serbia, Kosovo, Vietnam, Korea, The great world wars....and yes in Afghanistan and Iraq but that is where it stops. Let me ask you something? You're father is in the service and was killed in a war, and Clinton was in the white house. There are protests going on around the country because of this war. People on the other side of the country to you are using your fathers picture on a sign they are holding in a protest of that war. How would you feel? Would you feel violated?

This is my whole point.

47. And the Vietnam Wall?
How do you feel about that? And the reading out of all the names of the victims of 911?

Again, I am honoring our soldiers with their names. I will not hide their names. bush hides them enough as it is.

My husband is a soldier recently back from Iraq; my nephew is a soldier currently in Iraq; I live on the largest US military base in the free world; I am no political hack using our soldiers for political purposes.

If you take it as a "political sway", that is your right to do so. I take it as honoring and remembering every one of those soldiers who died for bush's lies. This is my memorial for each one of those troops. No one much else appears to want to bother.

52. And because of the right of free speech,
you are entitled to use their names anyway you deem fit. The Vietnam memorial is just that, a memorial. If you want to get the funds together and start a Iraqi war memorial then I wouldn't object. You would be presenting a official memorial that would stand as a monument to the world. A symbol of the sacrifices of those fallen.

43. I take it that you support the invasion of Iraq
Welcome to DU. You will find that most (not all) here were against the invasion and believe it was done to further ends of the Bush Administration that were not honorable.

The men died honorably following orders and no one can take that from them. They had no choice.

We as voters have a choice to boot the Smirk out of the WH and hope that the new occupant isn't so enthralled with death and destruction and will use war as a last resort.

Where did you serve in Iraq, btw? Can you describe your experience?

I'm very glad you made it home safely.

51. I am/was part of the 108th mobile artillery unit.
I did mobile comm. support and other nerdy computer stuff. We moved all the big stuff over, then moved it back to the states. I was ordered to stay and assist the Civil Affair boys then I could go home. We were 1st in Al Kazimiyah(sp?) there abouts, then moved to Baghdad central. I staying in Baghdad for 2 months then was able to come home.

I sat in a armored track unit (M229), or sometimes in a dues and a half, and just secured comm. channels and encoded transfers all day. We were only hit once (in the M229) and it was small arms fire about 50 or so feet away. Our gunner was on the twin on top and just mowed down the dirt in front of them and they ran. We rounded them up out of a cellar about an hour later. Other than that, I was out of the fight the rest of the time. In the rear with the gear, so to speak. I did notice that I didn't really get scared, just got kind of numb all over and all I could here was the comm. traffic and reports. I just kept typing away and didn't really realize that it was over that
fast.

It may sound funny, but one of the things that I really took notice of when I came back, was carpet on my floors and running water. I was changed while over there. It is an experience that I feel was nesasary for me and has left me apriciating life and my freedoms more.

Its not really a story a it is a life changer. I have never known anyone that has never seen or heard of running water. It was a mind blower.

54. Thank you for your service
I'm not in your generation. I was your age during the Vietnam war.

Did you form an opinion while you were over there as to whether Iraqis will accept the continuing occupation? My sense from reading reports is that most want the U.S. to leave. I know you couldn't have had a lot of interaction with a lot of Iraqis because of the danger factor, but I'm curious to know what your impression is about this.

Again, I'm very very glad you made it home safely and I hope that all our soldiers will be home soon, too.

55. well,
I had the opportunity, when I was helping with the Civil AF boys to meat a lot of the people around that area. I found none that were hostile or angry. None that were rude or upset. I saw children laughing and playing. One of the fathers was helping build the school with us and he was crying one day. I asked my CO to ask him what was wrong. He said he had never seen his children smile the way that they did when we installed the carpet in the school and it was tickling their feet. They were giggling and kept getting in the way. I gave them candy to go away, big mistake. I soon became the "candy man". My wife sent about 900 pounds of the stuff and I think I ate maybe 2 pieces. I gave the rest out to the children. It was w very humbling experience. I have never seen people life in such poverty as I witnessed there.

I am so saddened, so angry... I can hardly catch my breath.

This is a black day in America.

God, please help our country see what's going on... give our people the wisdom and the courage to stop this carnage at the ballot box.

Amen.

compared to the 750,000 people in the United States who die from heart disease every year. In fact, Heil Hannity is preparing talking points about the fact that over 700 billion dinosaurs died when an asteroid hit the earth about 60 million years ago.

prayers for peace
prayers that bush and all his friends may seek forgiveness one day
prayers that our country, unlike iraq, will be able to avoid civil war
prayers that God forgives us all. as was written long ago, we are a
failed species and deserve our fate but dont deserve Gods love
prayers that others may see
prayers for Gods love over all

glory to God who continues to love while our world hates

50. President Kerry, STOP THIS WAR
Please, Mr. President, when the dust has settled, and you've taken your oath of office, get our people out of Iraq as soon as humanly possible.

Iraq is not some zero-sum game dreamed up by Pentagon brass or PNAC bureaucrats. It's a humanitarian disaster, waged for no reason but to line the pockets of the Bush Gangsters and their oil-profiteering buddies.

We know you supported the IWR vote in 2002, but that was over two years ago. We now know that invading Iraq was a mistake. We shouldn't compound this mistake by overstaying our welcome.

President Kerry, WITHDRAW OUR TROOPS. Cancel the war profiteers contracts. Give the Iraqis the money instead. Let THEM decide how to rebuild their country. Kick out the Halliburtons and the Bechtels, and all their contractors/mercenaries. 75% of Iraq is currently unemployed-- I'm sure these brave intelligent people can rebuild their nation themselves, with our financial help.

President Kerry, withdrawing the troops now is NOT an act of cowardice. In fact, it's the bravest thing you can do. It takes a brave man to admit our country made a mistake, to face down the right-wing spin machine, and to hold his head high when he does the right thing. You'll prove that you're above petty politics, and able to make decisions that are in the best interests of the entire world, not just those of the energy-industrial complex.

Mr. President, you didn't win because you were the "anti-war" candidate. You won because more Americans trusted you with the stewardship of this great nation. We trust you to do what's best for us, and right now, that means getting out of Iraq as soon as humanly possible, for the good of the people of Iraq, the United States and the world.

53. Someday there will be another Wall in D.C.
Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He Is Dead,
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last for ever: I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now: put out every one;
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood.
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

58. In remembrance of all the dead soldiers
May your deaths not have been in vain. May they somehow help to wake up the American people and help them to see the evil in the White House for what it is. May they contribute in some small way to the end of this evil regime.

Come you masters of war
You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes
You that build the big bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks

You that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly

Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain

You fasten the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
When the death count gets higher
You hide in your mansion
As young people's blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud

You've thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain't worth the blood
That runs in your veins

How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
Though I'm younger than you
Even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do

Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead

60. It is a slow-massacre with ONE responsible.
Also, don't forget that those who subsequently die in hospitals from injuries are not counted among the killed-in-action numbers, so the total now is far more than 1,000 and future numbers will likewise be distorted.
