The Three Ashleys
Edited on Mon Oct-27-08 04:10 PM by SallyMander

*Wonderful* post on www.fivethirtyeight.com

In 2004, Ashley Faulkner looked into the camera and said of George W. Bush, "He's the most powerful man in the world, and all he wants to do is make sure I'm safe, that I'm OK."

It was powerful. It was an emotional, affirmative argument to vote for George W. Bush. Ashley's line, and the photo of Bush hugging her during a campaign visit to Ohio, was the Bush-Cheney campaign's emotional closing argument.

The message: "Vote for George Bush, he'll keep you safe, he cares about you personally."

Flash forward four years to the closing days of the 2008 presidential campaign, and it's clear that John McCain and Sarah Palin had a different Ashley-centric emotional closing argument in mind.

4. makes me wonder how many of those false cries of rape that resulted in so many lynchings
of black men in the south were perpetrated by emotionally disturbed young women in need of help.

I have sympathy for Ashley. But did she ever read "To Kill a Mockingbird" in school? She might have gotten a LOT of people killed.

5. Though her brain is scrambled she did a dangerous, disgusting thing. The loonies
coming out of the woodwork, for sure. I hope it ends soon.
