Des Moines Register endorses Obama
Register editorial board endorses Obama for President

Barely two years into Barack Obama's first term as a U.S. senator, he launched an unlikely presidential candidacy imbued, he acknowledged, with a "certain audacity."

Casualties were mounting in Iraq, memories of the government's failed response to Hurricane Katrina still stung, and a majority of Americans told pollsters they believed the country was on the wrong track.

Yet in announcing his presidential bid, Obama outlined a bold, hopeful vision for America

...snip...

Obama has earned the Register's endorsement for the presidency because of his steadfastness in the face of uncertainty, his clear-eyed vision for a more just America and his potential for rallying the country to do great things.

2. Newspaper endorsement tally so far - Obama 145 / McCain 55
NEW YORK (Updated Saturday) The Obama-Biden ticket maintains its strong lead in the race for daily newspaper endorsements, by 145 to 55, an almost 3-1 margin and an even wider spread in the circulation of those papers (see full tally below).

Obama's lopsided margin, including most of the major papers that have decided so far, is in stark contrast to John Kerry barely edging George W. Bush in endorsements in 2004 by 213 to 205.

7. YAHOOOO!!!
My signature home state newspaper endorsed Obama!!!

:woohoo:

This was a bit of a surprise, since the Register is a right-leaning paper from my view. Still, the paper has nothing but good things to say about Obama and bashes Palin. I will take it!
