Now THIS would shake things up!
This is from Howard Stern's message board:

nixonzm: howard, why don't you interview kerry for your abc special? or is that another project that we will never see?

Howard Stern: I offered kerry the entire hour....

I know a lot of people don't like Stern, but I sure am glad he's on our side.

3. A bit of background:
Howard has a contract with ABC to do a one hour interview with anyone he wants (or can get) whenever he wants. People can analyze the positives and negatives of Kerry doing this until they're blue in the face, but one thing is sure, an absolutely MASSIVE amount of independent voters would be watching.

5. Kerry MUST do this!!!
If Kerry does not take advantage of this great opportunity to reach out to independents, it shows his campaign is still afraid to fight back. Stern can be a little tricky, but Kerry should be smart to handle it and besides Kerry is a bigger advocate of free speech than Bush is and Stern knows it.

6. He HAS to do Stern!
I'm from Philly originally, where Howard has his highest ratings in the country. I personally know registered rethugs who are voting for Kerry specifically b/c of Stern's contempt for Bush. Whenever someone says "swing voters," I think of Stern's audience. They'd be happy to vote for Bush unless given reasons not to, which is exactly what Stern has been doing.

If you're reading, Kerry campaign, PLEASE go on Howard!!!

Republicans, moderates, and men and women in their 40's who have never voted in their life are now anxious to vote Kerry, and it's all because of Howard. More than any other public figure, Stern has been brilliant at really hammering home the Orwellian absurdity of two draft dodgers attacking a man who actually served bravely with honor. He's also been one of the strongest advocates in the country for stem cell research, gay rights, a women's right to choose, and the environment.

11. Stern is even willing to be nice
Meaning no "banging Morgan Fairchild" questions.

I recall that he's said this, and has even said he won't interview Kerry if it would cost him the election.

Kerry does need to do some talk shows. He did TDS, but he really needs to go on Letterman or Leno. As I said yesterday, the best show to go on would be Oprah. Her show is huge among women, and Oprah is a Dem. This is a can't miss.

The "bible people" you are referring to would have a field with whatever Kerry did. I think he should go for it.

14. Stern wants Kerry to win
and he knows how to be respectful (and respectable) when he has to. It's a can't-lose situation for Kerry.

13. 6 Of 1...Half A Dozen. What Does Kerry Have To Lose?
The hidden factor in this election are the "non voters"...the majority who don't want to be bothered. Stern reaches many of those people. These aren't Independents, they're invisible to pollsters as many don't fit the registered or likely voter profiles. These are the types who came out for Jesse Ventura in '98 and the Gropinator last year.

Some of Clinton's best moves in '92 was to go where candidates didn't dare. He did MTV and the late night talk shows. Kerry needs to reach out as well. To hell with the fundies and wingnuts...they're gonna spin and ridicule anyway. Plus, their boy needs to do the same thing.

While an hour of Stern & Kerry would be painful, and I think any interview should be seperate of the butt spanking and lesbian jello wrestling, a Kerry appearance on the Stern show wouldn't be a bad thing at all.

Even if he doesn't do the TV special, he should do the radio show. Every morning Howard spends the better part of an hour ranting against Bunnypants and this would be an hour Kerry could use to connect to a lot of willing voters.

15. Stern has helped a few pols in the past
Edited on Tue Sep-07-04 03:28 PM by RatTerrier
Al D'Amato was the first to take advantage of Stern's dedicated audience. George Pataki and Christie Whitman also jumped on the Stern bandwagon, and he pushed hard for them as a result.

Granted, these are New York-area pols, but it really helped.

BTW: The people I mentioned are Republicans. Meaning, if the fundies slammed Kerry for going on Stern, the Dems could throw it back at them.

I see it as a win-win situation. The ones horrified by Stern's show are likely not Kerry voters anyway.

Besides, Kerry needs to show some his personable side anyway. That's what Clinton did when he went on Arsenio's show.

16. Kerry Definitely Needs To Do The Radio Show...
and the sooner the better.

Yep, I know how he helped Pothole Al and his show is heard in important markets like Cleveland, Columbus, Miami, Orlando, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Minnepolis and several other battleground areas where every new vote is golden.

Hope someone at Kamp Kerry picks this up.

Cheers!

His show left the air there a few years back. Clear Channel didn't show much faith then, I guess.

19. Arnold and Rudy both went on Howard - Kerry can't be a wimp!
Kerry is going to have to take some risks to win this and going on Howard's show could be very helpful!

20. kick for the evening crowd
Does anyone think this is worth getting a little DU campaign together through emails and phone calls to the Kerry camp, suggesting he accept? I really don't think I'm overblowing the positive effect this could have. What do you guys think?
