Reference Socialism: someone talk me down if I'm wrong, but.....
Edited on Wed Oct-22-08 06:05 PM by Riddler
as Governor, Sarah Palin increased the taxes on oil companies, creating a windfall tax revenue, which was then returned to the citizens of Alaska. How is this different from the very things they are accusing Obama over, i.e., increasing taxes and sharing or redistributing those revenues? And why the hell isn't anyone saying that?

3. I don't think it was redistributing...
...in and around the Great Lakes, revenue is created when NG (oil? dunno) is drilled for, found, pulled out, sold, used...that $ has been used, among other things, to buy up chunks of ground and set them aside...john q public uses these lands for various forms of recreation...whereas in Alaska, as I understand it, the money was given to the residents of the state...and given the energy situation, you'd think more of that would go on, instead of being jerked around...Senator Obama said something about oil leases that aren't being used...don't know what that is all about...suspect things, but who am I...trying to make a living and doing the best I can...the question is, why isn't more conversation being heard about using our resources to help us? Instead of "looking at" something...when will someone actually do something? The state of California, among others, could do the same thing...drill...and some of the revenue from that process could help with budget problems. Will it be done? Not when we have had a $750 billion dollar Stamp Act and life goes on...there's an analogy there to our nation's early days, but other matters are more important, I guess.
