New web site (obamaforeconomy.com) - addresses concerns of "Joe the Plumber"
A new web site, "Obama for a Sound Economy" (www.obamaforeconomy.com), should allay Joe Wurzelbacher's fears about Obama's tax proposals.

We asked the very people whose income and capital gains taxes would go up under Obama, "Why do you support Obama's candidacy, on economic grounds?"

We directly contacted these individuals, and in just a few days, we have collected an impressive mix of statements from business owners, investors, six Nobel Laureates, and economists. As is obvious from the powerful quotes on our site, the affluent are supporting Obama because they are sure the economy will benefit, not because they want their wealth to be "spread around." Joe Wurzelbacher has nothing to worry about.

So, if you know anyone who is afraid to vote for Obama because of the tax policy, point them to our site.

And, of course, if you know anyone who would like to contribute a quote, we can always use more!

1. If you have ideas on soliciting quotes
Getting quotes has been an order of magnitude harder than designing and creating the site itself.

It's easy to get Nobel Laureates and economists (professor e-mails are always public), but getting executives, investors, business owners is next to impossible. The other problem is that people don't want to self-identify as affluent. I can't even get a single doctor to go on record (I have resorted to pulling up campaign contributions on FEC for entire medical schools and e-mailing the doctors who donated to Obama, but not a single quote came out of the several hundred solicitations).

So, if you have any suggestions for getting non-academic quotes, please let me know!

Thanks.

PS And of course, if you personally know someone who might want to contribute, please do ask them.
