I didn't catch the guy's name, but he told Norah O'Donnell that her medical records will be released on HER timetable, (NOT before the election "just because the media wants to see them") adding that the media has been unfair to her (mentioning how "the media" was "even" questioning if her last baby was really hers, and that "she's run in a marathon. She's very healthy.")

They're released to the media because it would be impossible for her to release them to each and every inquiring American.

If it turns out she had an abortion, it would be easy for the right wingers to rationalize away the hypocrisy (lots o practice), by saying her public policies are in accord w/ conservatives.
If it turns out Trak is not her baby, then it's played off as Palin being a concerned and giving mother.
The rumor to push is mental illness.
That is the kind of thing your low information voter is going to care about. There is a significant (and unfair) stigma about any kind of mental illness, especially in small town "real America".

McCain's camp has been particularly vicious to Obama. Why wasn't Obama able to protect himself against them by, say, keeping his financial records to himself?
