Palin No "Federalist" - Differs With McCain on Federal Marriage Amendment
Palin Differs With McCain on Federal Marriage Amendment
October 20, 2008 9:14 AM

ABC News' Imtiyaz Delawala Reports: Republican vice presidential nominee Gov. Sarah Palin has signaled support for a federal marriage amendment defining marriage as between a man and woman – a position inconsistent with Sen. John McCain, who has opposed such a measure, as well as with her own previously stated position of letting states decide on such issues.

In an interview to air tomorrow on The 700 Club, Christian Broadcasting News senior correspondent David Brody asked Palin, "On constitutional marriage amendment, are, are you for something like that?"

"I am, in my own, state, I have voted along with the vast majority of Alaskans who had the opportunity to vote to amend our Constitution defining marriage as between one man and one woman," Palin said, citing the 1998 initiative that banned gay marriage in her home state.

"I wish on a federal level that that's where we would go because I don't support gay marriage," Palin added, taking a position at odds with McCain, who opposed efforts for a proposed Federal Marriage Amendment in 2004. McCain opposes same-sex marriage, but says he believes the decision should be left to individual states.

Palin’s position is also at odds with statements she has made calling herself a "federalist" who supports letting individual states decide on such matters.

2. Palin wants the constituion to be whatever God wants..
and if she has to tell white lies during the election so she can get into power to make sure that Roe v. Wade is over turned, that Gay's have zero rights, that every rich bastard in the country pays no taxes while the poorest losers pay all of it - then so be it.

Thankfully she's to big of an idiot to keep her lies straight.. so the truth is coming out.. in the 2 second soundbites where she's allowed to talk.

In the past 24 hours she's said:

I don't agree with our robo-calls.. but those decisions are made by the "big brass". WTF? Umm.. Sarah, being VP and all.. are you not part of the BIG BRASS in your own campaign?

States should be able to make their own decisions about gay marriage except for like in Alaska where we made it against our constitution and I'd like to see that at the federal level, also. WTF?

She's as dumb as a moose.

7. That, sir or madame, is an insult to moose!
And she's finally saying what we all knew. What's the quote? "When Fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross."

Falin makes me physically sick. :puke:

Everything else that Republicans want the federal government to have complete control over.

8. She probably does not understand what a federalist is.
And I will never support using the US Constitution or any state constitution to abridge anyone's rights.

15. Thanks for posting this... What gets under my skin about this politician is, she doesn't reflect an
awareness that there's a difference between her personal preferences and what the law should be.
I can see her finding no fault in me saying that I don't like waterskiing so we should outlaw it.
To extend this point, if there are laws that exist to protect the common good that happen to infringe upon her personal likes and dislikes, those laws have to go. Example, zoning laws in Wasilla.

Basically, she thinks that her job as a legislator is to shape laws to mirror her personal preferences instead of the common good. But that is both an overreaching of the law in some instances like gay rights and an undermining of the law in others, like wildlife protection.

Thank you for giving me a chance to express this.
It's been under my skin for a while now!

Cheers

16. And there are people who actually support her, people that I had
thought were fairly intelligent.

--------
My support of McCain was a long journey. My enthusiastic support of McCain came in an instant when he selected a VP running mate who could easily have been my sister.
--------
Ms ret88 is his sister, but we both have been hoping he meant his other sister, the fundie. We are the only Obamanauts on either side of our family. What did we do right?
