What do middle of the road Republicans think as they see McCain turn their party into fringe lunacy?

I mean, I used to know fairly normal people who considered themselves Republicans, mostly because they bought into the small government, lower taxes bs, which they all realize now was a total con. Most turned over the war and the resulting fiscal insanity. I think they thought they would have at least the remnants of a party after this election. After McCain and Palin, I am not sure that is the case.

I believe we will have an overwhelming victory based on one fact:

I have seen almost NO McCain/Palin bumper stickers and in my area in the last election, almost every other car had a Bush/Cheney bumper sticker. People are EMBARRASSED to be Republicans tight now, except for the staunchest members of the base.

...a lesser of two evils thing (Obama being the more evil one of course). They're still going to vote for McCain. But they aren't happy about it.
