Joe the racist plumber
Edited on Thu Oct-16-08 11:02 AM by LuckyTheDog
At the end of this interview, he admits that Obama won't raise his taxes and then he says Obama tap dances like Sammy Davis Jr.:

2. How is that racist?
Tap-dancing, in the world of politics, means you are dancing around an issue. In other words, not giving a straight answer. It's not racist to say someone is tap-dancing around an issue. And to compare him to Davis -- well, is there another tap dancer out there to compare him to? Gregory Hines is black too so he's out.

25. Fred Astair, Donald O'Conner, Tommy Tune,
Those are just three famous white dancers I can come up with just off the cuff. They all tapped along with other dances.

8. Dog-whistle.
He specifically mentions Sammy Davis Jr.

No need to do that if he was using the metaphor of 'tap-dancing around the issue'. He made sure we knew he was being demeaning.

And so do you, now.

Go on and defend guys like this. You have been doing it since you got here. Can't wait for the pizza delivery.

19. It's called thinking
I know you hear a comparison to a black person and automatically think RACISM. Just because you mention a black person does not make you a racist. If I said Obama pounded McCain last night like Ali, would that be racist?

17. Gene Kelly.
And of course it's racist. It's got that underlying message that that's what black folks do - they're here to "entertain."

21. Sammy Davis Jr. was mainly known for his singing and being part of the Rat Pack
Fred Astaire would have been an obvious first choice.

It's true that "tap dancing" around an issue is a common phrase used in politics. But it's also true that there is a strong negative stereotype associated with African-Americans subserviently performing for white people.

I don't know if this was deliberate, or just proof that this guy is talking out his ass. Either way, it's not going to sit well with a lot of voters.

24. Bill "Bojangles" Robinson?
I have to go way back to find any famous tap dancers. I suppose there's Shirley Temple, or Ray Bolger (the Scarecrow in Wizard of Oz). Davis is one of the few relatively modern ones I can think of, even though he was more famous as a singer.

26. Dancing with Shirley Temple in several movies was
Buddy Ebsen, but he was more of a shuffler I guess. Donald O'Conner was pretty famous and tapped among other dances, as did other dancers. Tommy Tune is still around on Broadway and he tapped also along with other styles of dance. Alfonso Ribeiro was the "Tap Dance Kid" on Broadway, he later played Will Smith's cousin on "Fresh Prince". He is Dominican, although most people think of him as African American.

Those along with Fred Astair and Gene Kelley are the only tappers I can think of right now.

28. So you can get by without having a license to do work just by owning a company?
That's bizarre. In Tennessee, I know that my company has to have permits and licenses for everything - and so do the employees that do the work, for every state and location we do work in.

The cover needs to be blown off of this soon, since McCain is running around wrapping himself under the blanket of "Joe the Plumber".
