For some reason, Bernanke felt like helping Obama today...

Market was down around 275.... then Bernanke spoke. He talked in glum language about the economy heading into a recession.

The market dropped another 275 points by the time he was done speaking.

Bernanke made it tough on McCain tonight. If he tries to talk about anything OTHER than the economy, he'll look even more like a dolt.

Bernanke boxed Shaeffer and McCain in tonight. It will be all economy, all the time.... or both Shaeffer and McCain will be the big losers tonight.

Maybe Bernanke secretly wants Obama to win?

1. The only reason that they would want Obama to win is so they can pin this mess on him
and have a chance in 2012.

4. I don't think the FRC chair is trying to screw anyone.
I think they've realized the cold, stark reality of their situation and that McCain waffling on about Bill Ayers is not going to fix it.

2. More likely knows he's going to win. Odds are with Obama for sure.
My guess is the retail numbers are far more responsible for the market than Bernanke's speech.

But what do I know?

3. The retail numbers account for the first 275 points in the drop... the second 275 was all during
Bernanke's testimony.
