McCain throws his rabid "Palinite" base under the bus...calls them "nuts"
http://thinkprogress.org/2008/10/12/salter-nuts/

Top McCain adviser insults supporters: We’re not responsible for the ‘occasional nut.’»

“I think there have been quite a few reporters recently,” said Mr. McCain’s closest adviser, Mark Salter, “who have sort of implied, or made more than implications,
that somehow we’re responsible for the occasional

nut

who shows up and yells something about Barack Obama.”

2. This is gonna play really well with the Freepers.
I can hear them sharpening their long knives as I speak!

Poor Faust. The stupid fool made his deal with the devil and now acts surprised that Old Scratch has shown up to collect his soul.

5. "Occasional nut"??? One reporter said nearly everyone they interviewed at a McCain rally thought
Obama was a Muslim. Occasional nut indeed. Yes this won't help them with the wing nuts but they will still vote for Sarah.

6. that's not how the Germans who survived Hitler see it
everyone should read this:

http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/10/12/111241/17/214/628294

it isn't an occasional nut. and yes, they could do something about it if they chose to.

first thing could be to stop accusing Obama of associating with terrorists. I mean, come on. Grow up.

12. CitizenPatriot, I agree.
( I've been agreeing with you quite a bit, lately- :) )

but think about it,

If they clear up the "terrorist" lie they've been spreading about Obama,
what do they have left?

Nothing!

They've got absolutely NOTHING on Obama.

"He's a community organizer- Off with his head" ?

Naw, it doesn't have the weight some of these neo-KKKrs
need.

btw, Nevermind that McCain himself denounced this BS a few days
ago- they've got to run with it. It's all they have, besides their torches
and pitchforks.

15. Hi there!!!

:hi: :hi:

Nice to know I'm not alone in my thinking!! :hi:

You're right...that is all they have. And it isn't working well with the undecideds.

Let's just hope nothing bad happens in the interim. If it does, they are responsible.

10. McCain started down this slippery slope when he spoke at Bob Jones U.
Edited on Mon Oct-13-08 10:35 AM by ZeitGuy
Even before he officially announced his candidacy, he sold out the support he had from independent voters in order to suck up to the fundy base that he figured was the lynchpin to his election in '08. Now that he and Palin have worked this faction of raving, white-trash lunatics into a seething, murderous lather, he finds himself having to try, essentially, to distance his campaign from itself.

Good luck with that, Grampy.

"Well played, sir. Well played."

11. Modern Republicans are playing like The Ends Justify the Means
and yet they are "not responsible for the occasional nut" ??

They really have stirred up George Wallace rally type sentiments in the crowds quite consciously. No other way you'd give Failin' those lies to tell. No other way you'd push McShame to spread those lies too.

Yo, Steve Schmidt-- you who were given NEARLY TEN MINUTES on Now Pro Republican radio this morning and said things were "just where we want them to be" -- YES YOU ARE responsible for stirring up a mess of seething emotion.

You all chose the kitchen sink strategy with your "all's fair" attitude, so don't you dare think you can just disavow the results.

18. We've all seen the more than occasional nut on the net.
They get away with it here and on right-wing AM radio, but that stuff doesn't fly with rational Americans. Shining the light on Republican behavior has been GREAT for Obama!
