GOP playing catch-up with ground operation | Obama is best for U.S., Bill Clinton says at VCU

http://www.timesdispatch.com/cva/ric/times_dispatch.html

On their website (which is not only horrific to navigate but also not widely viewed by the "target audience" of the T-D ;-) ) Clinton does get top billing but in the actual paper itself the GOP story (a T-D exclusive!) is the in the upper left hand side.

1. Isn't Failin' supposed to be in Richmond today (Monday)?
The captive audience is a NASCAR race.

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/10/10/palin-rally-in-virginia-moved-to-nascar-track/

They're claiming it's because the original venue held only 6k and the NASCAR event holds 100k.

The way I see it, however, is that the GOP couldn't fill up the 6k venue, so they're going to where everyone is already going: the NASCAR race!

Of course, I don't think she'll get booed like she was at the Flyers hockey game the other night, but there's still a chance we'll see some Obama signs and hear some boos!

2. Yes she is
I wonder what the T-D will look like tomorrow-probably a above-the-fold full color photo. The pic of Bill in front of the big American flag is not on the front page of the printed paper.
ot only would their
I agree about moving it from the Arthur Ashe center. Their base couldn't be too kean on having to be around the crowd on The Boulevard (not a "bad" part of town but it is really close to the Bus station ;-) )

I understand that they can frame the event to make it look like a large crowd-it might well be. But the general rule is that you never leave the "room" unfilled. Even if they get say 10,000 at RIR the crowd will be swallowed up in a stadium that seats 60,000 or so (and that is not including the infield)

But then who are WE to tell them how to run a campaign?? I mean they are doing such a great job as it is.

5. These people have the wrong info
The Nascar race in Richmond was held in August. The race this weekend is in Martinsville, Va which is on the Va./NC border. Is the McCain campaign so screwed up they can't even get this right? Looks like it to me.

6. Thank you for the correction.
I should have known better than to trust what the GOP says!

7. I don't think they screwed up, but it's hilarious...
To put a rally in a place that holds 100,000 and they won't even fill a quarter of that. It'll look like a very small crowd at the raceway.

3. It's bizarre they have that headline above him

It looks like he's the rapist. His picture should be under his headline. I'm
sure it is just a coincidence.

8. In all fairness to the right wing rag....aka the Times Dispatch
Bill Clinton didn't even arrive in Richmond until after 9pm which is way pass press time for a mid size paper.

And so they put it up on the website.

It will be interesting tomorrow, however, to see what they have plastered on the front page. If it's only Palin and no Bill, than I'll call foul with you.
