The Great Schlep is working

For those of you wondering if Sarah Silverman's quest to get young Jews to go to Florida to get their grandparents to vote for Obama (The Great Schlep) here is an article from the UK talking about it's progress:

"The viral movement was backed by a video message by the comedian Sarah Silverman, saying: "You know why your grandparents don't like Obama, because his name sounds scary. Yes Barack Hussein Obama is a super shitty name, but you'd think somebody named Manishevitz Guberman would understand that."

Bender watched the video, laughed, and decided to traverse the States to confront his grandparents.

He was not alone. Over the weekend dozens of young Jewish Americans travelled to Florida with the ambition of swinging this ultimate swing state in favour of Obama. Hundreds more have made the lesser schlep, or "mini schlep" - lobbying their grandparents by phone."

3. This made me cry
"I've got a couple of years to go, so this vote isn't for me," said his grandfather. "All I'm interested in now is that my grandchildren should be safe. This one is for them."

4. How sweet is this...
"I've got a couple of years to go, so this vote isn't for me," said his grandfather. "All I'm interested in now is that my grandchildren should be safe. This one is for them."

...I liked this one too.
"I said to her that if there are any people who can understand the wickedness of lies said about them, it is the Jews. That hit home."

7. Schlep
I'm wondering if a gentile version of this would work, I know if my grandson called me or came to see me I would listen to what he had to say. I would try to be a little stubborn, just to keep him around for a while. Then after a day or two, I would cave in and agree to vote for Omaha Was going to vote thaT WAY ANYWAY, BUT IT WOULD BE FUN TO HAVE THE KID AROUND FOR A COUPLE DAYS ANYWAY.

9. "The Lesser Schlep".

This makes me so happy, I may need to form a rock band just to assume the name.

 for reinforcing the familial ties that have been weakened by our national diaspora, and shaking sense back into our families' brains about what's best for our future grandchildren.

After all: we will want them to come see us too, right?
