Do Palin's kids go to school?
I've been wondering this every fucking day as I see them trotted out as props - why aren't they in school? I can see maybe once or twice (like the RNC) but why are they out on the trail being used as props every day?

I'm sure this isn't the first thread on this, but I haven't noticed one yet.

1. My biggest question is: Is Trig getting early-intervention services, and if not, why not?
Edited on Fri Oct-10-08 10:07 PM by gauguin57
Children with special needs need early intervention ASAP ... when they're babies. I have a special-needs adult in my family who benefited immensely from getting into special-needs pre-school as soon as my family knew he had developmental delays.

Trig is being toted around the country (in the arms of his siblings) like a sack of potatoes ... is someone with special-education training working with him? If not, Sarah Palin sucks as a mom. Period.

13. Doesn't being passed around by barely older siblings count?

15. As someone that brags about seeing Trig as a blessing, I hope she treats him as one.
My uncle benefited from early programs as well; he can care for himself and even picked up trade skills in school. I hope that the Palins are doing what they can to make baby Trig's later years as fruitful as possible. Carrying a child to term isn't where concern for their welfare ends.

16. This is my big gripe as well.
I have two children with Down syndrome and by the time they were Trig's age they were getting at least three types of therapy with at least one session each day of the week. For kids with DS, the first year is absolutely crucial in determining their future level of functioning... it isn't too extreme to say that their quality of life for the rest of their lives is dependent on the level of intervention they get during their infant/toddler years. It is shameful that he is being carted all over the country like some kind of prop... And another thing, now that I'm smokin'... I have never been able to find a straight answer on who exactly is the primary caregiver for this child. Is it his sister? Does he have a nanny? It's obviously not either one of his parents:(

23. Thank you, mamalone, for your insight. Someone needs to set Madame Governor straight.
This is serious stuff ... Trig has needs that, unless I'm missing something, aren't being met on the campaign trail.

10. We homeschool in our family.
It can result in a wonderful and diversant education when done correctly... of course that requires actually spending time and emotional energy on your kids. I don't know if Sarah is up for that kind of thing:eyes:

17. Ahh.. so she's the multi-tasker of the group..
Govenor of Alaska - CHECK
Hockey Mom - CHECK
Campaigning full time for VP - CHECK

FULL TIME TEACHER TO 2 KIDS - WHAT THE FUCK?

Sorry.. I don't think she can do one of those things well.. let alone all 4. And, frankly if you have a 2.1 GPA, perhaps you should pass the whole education thing off to someone else? :eyes:

7. They are not.
They touted themselves as a "homeschool family," but in fact the kids are (supposedly) attending public school. I've even heard her describe her children as products of the public schools... in an attempt to make herself seem "regular folk," I suppose:eyes: They justified the homeschool label because the oldest girl, Bristol was officially homeschooled during the time she was out of school with mono.

9. well, in one breath she praises home schooling but in one of her speeches
in the debate, she talks about her kids being in public school. and there is the info about her daughter 'missing' 5 months of school in Wasilla due to 'mono' and then shipping the daughter off to her sister in Anchorage to continue school. But I'd be willing to bet there is a tutor traveling with the kids. As for early care for Trig...... I doubt it. I'm sure he'll be shuffled into a closet once the election is over and she goes back to AK.

5. I'm not as upset with the kids education as with the baby.
I can't stand the thought of him going up and down on airplanes and his poor little ears. The poor little thing never even moves when he's being held.

Can a family "home school" their children by using a paid tutor?

19. It depends on your state and it's regulations.
In some states the regs are so lax you can basically do whatever you want... and sadly that is sometimes a whole lotta nuthin'. In my state, you have to submit a educational/curriculum plan for each child each year, then you must submit a progress report each quarter and have the child tested independently annually. You are able to hire tutors, etc, but the parent must retain primary responsibility for the education. I don't know for sure, but I suspect that Alaska has laws that are more on the lax side.

26. If she homeschools, the kids missed some important lessons
Edited on Sat Oct-11-08 09:20 AM by Generic Other
Look at Bristol. Mom prepped her well, so she went to public high school and immediately fell in with the drinking, druggie crowd, then got pregnant. Homeschooling success story this does not appear to be.

And let's not forget bad boy Track who got the "Army or jail" lecture from a judge after vandalizing public school busses.

Yes, as examples of upstanding moral churchgoing homeschooled kids, these two stand out. Why I think they should put their pictures on the brochures advertising the benefits of letting an ignorant ideologically warped mother teach her kids nearly nothing.

27. She didn't want to be separated for her kids
and her family arranged for a traveling tutor. I don't think we can fault her for that.

There are plenty of other things we can criticize her over.

28. Maybe she roadschools them...can't be "homeschooled" since they're never home.
If they're not roadschooled, or tutored, they're truants.
