Sulli: Pleads McCain to stop the madness - fears for Obama's safety.
The Dangerous Panic On The Far Right

To some, a president Obama is simply unimaginable. From a McCain supporter in Wisconsin yesterday:

"We're all wondering why Obama is where he's at. How he got here. Everybody in this room is stunned we're in this position."

There was always going to be a point of revolt and panic for a core group of Americans who believe that Obama simply cannot be president - because he's black or liberal or young or relatively new. This is that point. As the polls suggest a strong victory, the Hannity-Limbaugh-Steyn-O'Reilly base are going into shock and extreme rage. McCain and Palin have decided to stoke this rage, to foment it, to encourage paranoid notions that somehow Obama is a "secret" terrorist or Islamist or foreigner. These are base emotions in both sense of the word.

But they are also very very dangerous. This is a moment of maximal physical danger for the young Democratic nominee. And McCain is playing with fire. If he really wants to put country first, he will attack Obama on his policies - not on these inflammatory, personal, creepy grounds. This is getting close to the atmosphere stoked by the Israeli far right before the assassination of Rabin.

For God's sake, McCain, stop it. For once in this campaign, put your country first.

1. McShitbrains just wants to win. If a "bad incident" can do that for him, he's fine with that.

4. I think that is what the McCain Palin campaign is aiming for
They want to win at any cost, even it means encouraging assassins.

19. It would not work. It would backfire on them and the results would be horrible for everyone.
They're playing with uncontrollable fire.

6. Exactly
They'd put on the crocodile tears and the fake sadness to make it seem like they're compassionate.....but behind the photo-ops, they're smirking in delight at the thought of winning and the power they'd have.

8. a political mean spiritedness that could lead to further bloodshed if Obama is hurt
And McCain and Schmidt seem to be pretty damned cavalier about it -- by golly, doncha know.

14. Think about it--if they manage to set race relations back 50 years or so
by instigating racial hatreds, if not out-and-out violence in this election, then the GOP will benefit for years to come. It will be the late 60's all over again, the GOP can rebuild its white working class base in more regions than just the red states and rural areas. People have grown more tolerant, enough to nominate a black man for the Presidency--that's bad for Republicans. If they can turn the clock back on that, they will.

11. If, God forbid, anything happens to Barack
McCain and his sidekick will to a certain respect be held responsible. Biden would go on to win. I hate talking about this . . . but that sick fuck wouldn't win.

18. The country would go up in flames if Obama were to be assassinated.
The business Republicans know this, I'm sure. Turmoil like that is not good for business. Somebody needs to yank McCain's chain hard.

23. It's another example of how dangerous it is for the Republicans to run fools.
Look what their candidate bush has done. And now they've scraped the bottom and put McCain and Palin out there as leaders. It's beyond irresponsible. They're taking down the entire country with this stupidity.

3. If he did he would still lose the election, but at least regain some respect.
But I doubt that he has any honor left.

5. McSleeze is incapable of actually putting his country first.
It has, is, and will always be, McMeFirst with John Sidney McCain III.

I'm glad Sullivan is calling him out though.

7. Sullivan is right. Its getting creepy now. I am scared for the safety
of both Barack and Joe. There are nuts out there that just need a little prodding and then they act. I sicnerely hope the Secret Service is doing their job and protects him. My only comfort is the fact that Bush has been absolutely hated and nothing happened to him. Then again the most hatred comes from this rabid Rethug core like Sulli said. I am very worried and what little respect I once held for Mcrap has all but evaported...well it was pretty much gone once he ran the sex-ed ads but now this man is inflaming rage in his supporters and I am disgusted.

9. The Republicans have created a monster: It's called their base
This is bigger than McCain, and Sullivan, who played along for years, should know better.

That said, I applaud the sentiment, but getting McCain to behave with some measure of honor doesn't touch the root of the problem, which is how coddled these evil people have been by the Republican Party for decades.

President. The BFEE said it was his turn, damn it! And nothing-country or no country--is going to stand in his way!

13. McCain has hit rock bottom, and is that desperate
that he is advocating hate and racism on the Presidential Candidate, they are heading down a very slippery slope.

15. Hope Sully can encourage a MEDIA BOYCOTT of the Republican hate rallies.

Remove all the coverage from the disgusting hate rallies

Or as radical as the concept may be, the reporters could JUST TELL THE TRUTH FOR ONCE-- "Desperate about their falling poll numbers, and devoid of any new ideas, McCain and Palin again pushed hatred as the best reason to vote Republican."

Instead, the news reports give respectful coverage to each campaign. Even as the McShame campaign has descended into stirring up fear and hatred based upon stories the reporters themselves know are false.

WHY CAN'T THEY JUST BE HONEST? "McCain and Palin are once again desperately pushing the false claim that Obama has terrorist associations, which stirs up hatred and violent outbursts from the crowd."

20. I had an anxiety attack last night before I fell asleep, just thinking about this...
.. what has happened to the GOOD and DECENT republicans in power??? Are they okay with this?

My GOD Obama is a fellow SENATOR, and McCain is treating him like "some guy off the street" (as one of McCain's people called him.)
