4. Not quite as confident as BlooInBloo, but...
yes, I think NC was headed that way, anyway. Add about 40% of white voters to the 95% of AA voters, and that is all it takes.

THANK GOD!

6. More precisely - will NC electoral votes go to Obama - because 76 was the last time a Dem won NC.

2. They have their base here in Charlotte. People are worried. But this is the base to many Large Banks
There is a reason Hugh McColl endorsed Obama this week

3. NC currently has the highest gas prices in the lower 48
That's going to hurt McCain as well.

Anyway, yes, Obama is going to win here. I was pessimistic about that happening for months, but it's going to happen.

5. Obama is already ahead in NC.
Edited on Thu Oct-09-08 08:10 PM by bowens43
Not only is he ahead but a massive voter registration drive has been running 6 to 1 in favor of the Democrats.

Obama is going to win North Carolina's 15 electoral votes.

7. There are 20,000 plus Wachovia Employees in Charlotte, NC ...
... and each one of them has a family and extended family, the adult members of which will vote in this election.

... and there are lots of businesses who depend upon those Wachovia employees to stay in business, who are now facing serious trouble.

... there are numerous charities and sports teams which depended upon Wachovia for their contributions--which will no longer be forthcoming.

This is a big deal for NC. Make no mistake about it.... and the McCain Campaign is not addressing their newfound status of the newly unemployed.

BTW ever tried to find a job in your specialty in a city when there are hundreds of other newly unemployed job applicants competing with you for that job? It is going to get ugly... quickly...

8. Just came from a O meeting today and
our fearless leader said that the race for all intents and purposes is tied according to their poll numbers BUT entirely winable.

MUST WORK HARD!!!

P.S. - I shook hands with Bone Crusher Smith - wheeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!

10. Unfortunately McCain anti-Obama ads are now dominating airwaves
I was hopeful when all we saw here in NC were the positive Obama ads, but now that polls are so close, as of about 2 days ago, McCain ads bent on instilling fear and doubt of Obama are now bombarding TV every time you turn it on. The swiftboating is in full force and I'm afraid it could work as it did here in 2004.

11. Wachovia is being bought by Wells Fargo, while Citygroup sues them
for going back on their word with them. So, no, they are not going to collapse.

12. The effect is the same....

Come to Delaware and take a look at the empty MBNA complex we now have that BoA bought MBNA.

Coming soon to Charlotte.

14. Yeah, I don't doubt there will be cut backs...but I am happier that Wells Fargo
bought them, than I would have been with Citygroup, but this is not over yet either. They may win the lawsuit they brought against Wachovia. If they do, after the 1st of the year, I am moving everything to some other bank. Not sure which yet. I hate Citygroup.

15. Not really the same thing. Wells Fargo and Wachovia don't
have a lot of overlap in the nation. Wells Fargo is mainly based in the West and Midwest where Wachovia is basically an east coast institution. While I'd prefer Wachovia was not being sold, Wells is the perfect buyer as far as Wachovia employees keeping their jobs and branches remaining open. Citigroup buying it would have been a massacre for the employees.

16. There will still be mid and upper management "consolidation"

We heard the same song and dance when BoA bought MBNA.

Shortly thereafter, the Delaware Department of Labor ceased publishing employment states by employer (as determined from unemployment insurance payments). We don't even know how many jobs were lost.

13. I don't think wachovia will make a difference
While I think that Obama will ultimately take North Carolina, I don't believe that Wachovia will be a large factor.

The wachovia factor will hit Charlotte the hardest, but Charlotte is already pretty blue.
