How did the Keating 5 corruption contribute to the economic problems we have today?
Is there a contribution? Is there a simple way of explaining it? It would seem to me that it should have had some impact on structure of banking and loans that was long lasting, and that someone added bells and whistles to get us where we are today? Or, am I way off base? If not, can we think tank our way to something which can be used when we talk to others?

2. The same tactics (deregulation and no oversight & greed) caused the
Lincoln S&L debaucle. The very same things got us in this mess today!

3. deregulation - if you don't have any oversight you can do whatever you want....
...if the government doesn't play it's role as protector of the citizenry, the citizenry gets screwed for the sake of the corporation that donates to a campaign - or several campaigns as in the case of the Keating 5.

McCain demonstrates that he learned nothing from Keating 5. Thus it has relevance today, real relevance. We need to connect the dots.

5. "There you go again, John." John McCain has always been for deregulation.
He is just having a memory lapse, but will recover when he next has a vote on any kind regulation. But he will deny it, after he does so. John likes to forget the inconvenient things.
