Counterpunch's latest issue says McC is sicker then is telling

I haven't read the article as I'm not a subscriber. the lead in says:

"A source tells CounterPunch that McCain received grim news during a recent, secret visit to a top cancer hospital in Los Angeles."

just thought I'd pass this info along

1. I suspected something was up
when he took this past weekend off - HIGHLY unusual for a candidate to do that this close to an election, especially one running behind.

Though pressed by CounterPunch, the reader insists on remaining anonymous. Over the course of several exchanges with our reader, we can report the following. A senior official in the National Institutes of Health, well known to our reader, has confided to her that in an informal conversation with a doctor in a California hospital the official had learned that there had been a metastasis of McCain’s melanoma, and that this had come to light in a checkup in the past few weeks.

Urged to reconfirm this news and to provide further details, our reader pressed the NIH official for more details and reported back to us on September 26 that she had “asked our NIH contact to verify the details.” The official “decided this was important, and contacted the doctor friend to get what info she could. So here it is. John McCain recently was diagnosed with a melanoma recurrence, with a metastasis to the lymph node, in his latest, most recent cancer checkup, which took place at John Wayne Cancer Institute in California.”

My family has had so much cancer, I don't wish it on anyone. Its a terrible way to go. John McCain seems to me to be the living personification of all the rot of the part thirty years made human and he's decaying before our very eyes.

13. It certainly would explain why the McCain campaign was in Southern California last week.
Being in a state where you are 15 points down, and have no hope of winning, yet there is your VP at a supposed campaign stop, while you are nowhere to be found on the stump.

26. We want Obama to win on the issues - not on the basis of his opponent's health
If McCain had to pull out and Obama won in the biggest landslide in history, it would form a cloud over Obama's presidency. It would affect his mandate. I would prefer for Obama to soundly beat a healthy John McCain, who's only illness is the sickness of his ideas and his mind.

Palin seems to be doing all the work. McCain has been canceling like crazy lately. He took off from the campaign for the crisis, but then phoned it all in. He looks very frail and unwell. I know they';ll spend another 5,300 bux to do his makeup for the debate, but it can't hide the fact that he's ill.

20. This could explain McCain limiting his daily campaigning so close to election day...
I have thought for a while that McCain seemed to be spiralling down physically since the Repub Nomination was locked up.

And this is subjective .... but he appears to me to have lost the fire and desire to push forward toward victory.

I don't know if he is seeing absolutely disasterous internal polling, and this is a natural consequence of the conclusion that the election is basically over at this point. But that would certainly be one possible explanation...

52. Well yeah, so does Counterpunch, I'll bet.
They published in article advising people to vote against Kerry, in October 2004. It seems to be in the school of thought over there that only when things get really, REALLY, bad, then their heroes like Nader can get elected. Or in any case it won't matter, because you know "there's not a dime's worth of difference between republicans and democrats".

I think that people are recommending this thread because the news may be very important. Sarah Palin is a disaster. If McCain is seriously ill and the McCain-Palin ticket is elected, the country will have Sarah Palin as our president. Not a good thought.

McCain's health is an important topic.

But, I suspect that after listening to months of often self-inflicted negativity, somebody new might garner a positive response.

60. Back a few years ago in CT
our long-time governor John Rowland resigned in disgrace over corruption charges, for which he later spent about a year in jail.

His Lieutenant Governor for those 10 years in charge, Jodi Rell, took over. She said a few nice things to the press and she was instantly labeled "Snow White" for her purity... never mind that she had been the #2 to Rowland and his ongoing corruption for 10 years (was she blind to it?) - her poll rating soared in the aftermath to the 80-90% approval range In Connecticut, Republics are about 20% of registered voters, Democrats are about 37% and Indies 42% - so, she got a lot of Dems, too. Even though she was in the midst of the corrupt regime for a decade, she had the media and the state eating out of the palm of her hand just because she was a breath of fresh air.

Edited on Tue Oct-07-08 05:49 AM by Old Crusoe
not being fully forthcoming with his health records, it accents his poor judgment in choosing Palin without reassuring voters that he's in reasonably sound health.

It's very plausible that "moderate" Republicans who have liked McCain since 2000 might be "less Republican" in a possible scenario in which McCain croaks and Palin were sworn in.
