It is hard for Palin to fool women by adopting such a cutesy, flirtatious presentation style as a substitute for responsive answers with content.

I believe women are really dialed in on the content of what is being said, as well as judging the sincerity of the presentation.

1. This woman did. Her fake cutesiness reminded me of Shirley Temple
I expected her to curtsy and launch into a chorus of Good Ship Lollipop.

15. But remember Shirley Temple grew up to be Shirley Temple Black
n accomplished diplomat (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shirley_Temple_Black#Political.2C_business_and_diplomatic_career) even if I never agreed with her political opinions. As an adult she did not use all those cutesy mannerisms and I'd bet that off camera she did not use them as a child either.

3. What those things show to me is how inexperienced.....
Palin really is in the working world.

Acting like that (flirtatious, cutesy) on a job is very risky. Some like it, but it also means you get taken less seriously. It's also an invitation to sexual harassment.

I felt like the women's movement was set back about 100 years tonight.

Embarrassing.

7. I'm reminded - of all things - of one of the Cannonball Run movies
Which I was exposed to a lot as a child because my mom loved Burt Reynolds, so lay off! :)

One of the entries is a Lamborghini driven by two hot women. When they're pulled over, they just unzip their tops a little further down to slow off their cleavage, and it works because most of the cops who catch them are guys, but one time, it was a lady trooper who greeted them with, "Well, hey there, hot pants! I don't suppose you've got a license in there, do you?"

Palin was the driver, and the women of America was the lady trooper.

Stick around. For the second Obama/McCain debate, I will somehow liken it to the characters in Smokey and the Bandit with special interest paid to Jerry Reed's character, "The Snowman."

20. That would have been Adrienne Barbeau
One of my teenage crushes for two obvious reasons. And the woman trooper was Valerie Perrine, not exactly a shrinking violet in the bustline department.

8. They did. She actually scored lower for women. Women by nature are more critical of their own.
She was shit for many women. She didn't answer the questions. She was in her own world. However, because her statemetns had no substance but were like shout-outs and fuzzy-ness and talking about energy...I guess. And that was it. Women will be watching it and paying close attention to her answers. You don't answer, you're shit.

10. Palin was pure homecoming queen -- the sort everyone hopes will trip down in the middle field
She, my friends, will meet her comeuppance in November. She will finally know that this act doesn't work in the big leagues, and everyone is laughing at her.

11. yep, even if we somehow lose the election.....
.... it WONT be because McCain was successful in his "steal all yer wimen" strategy by choosing Palin.

And that is a victory in itself.

12. I said this in another topic...

We see it in her winking and fake folksy act, in her abuse of power as governor and her loyalty tests. She's one of those women who can't lead by natural charm and ability, so she sets herself up as a Queen Bee and tries to tear down others to make herself look better. She is no one's loyal friend and sees people only in terms of what they can offer her and when she should stab them in the back. She's the Mean Girl in high school who spreads rumors that you have herpes from screwing your dog because she heard a rumor that the boy she likes might have a crush on you. She's the office gossip who sits in her web, spinning lies to make sure no woman gets promoted ahead of her.

Men run afoul of these women too, but not as frequently and not as personally as we do.

14. I am wondering how women backing Hillary perceived Palin's presentation?
IF I had to guess, they must have been irritated to no end by someone seeking the 2nd highest office in the land acting this way.

Imagine for a moment how this show would go over meeting with foreign leaders.

One of the primary demographics responsible for Obama's recent surge in the polls is women voters.

22. Well I know that I saw through it
Immediately. That initial little wink made me just wanna bop her one.

How many generations have women been working hard to be taken seriously for their intellect and we've got someone like Palin using "cutesy" in a Vice Presidential debate???!! Incredible.

Biden was the clear winner and I'm really disappointed in the media for not being perfectly clear on that point. I believe that they felt like they needed to be kind to Palin. I realize that Palin's expectations were very low, but the answers she gave were nothing more than memorized scripts.

23. The difference is so glaring between Palin and other knowledgeable women holding office in D.C.
There is such a profound difference in style and presentation, and it tends to create an environment in which she seems to be promoting the idea that intellectual ability is subordinated to flirtatious posing.
