Mel Gibson on a cross at the RNC?
Listening to the majority report Janeanne talking to Al Franken said they had rehearsed Mel Gibson entering on a cross before Bush's speech. They decided it was too much and haven't decided what part Gibson is going to play. Bush thought the cross needed more prominence though. Is this a joke and the listeners leg is being pulled or has anyone heard anything else like this?

6. 'iconography' is the word you were looking for

and no, it isn't subtle. Neither is the Bible-free televangelism coming from it.

8. yup, that's YOUR president . . .
in a not-too-subtle re-assurance to his religion-into-law contingencies that they have a LARGE nod from him (who talks to God, btw)! Again, this is YOUR president. Unreal, huh?

"I could not be governor if I did not
believe in a divine plan that supersedes all human
plans." -- Governor George W. Bush

"I believe that God wants me to be
president." — Richard Land, a Director
of the conservative evangelical Southern
Baptist Convention, quoting GWBush on
"the day was inaugurated for his
second term as governor in 1999."

"I, George W. Bush, Governor of Texas, do
hereby proclaim June 10, 2000, Jesus Day in
Texas and urge ... all Texans to answer the
call to serve those in need. By volunteering
their time, energy or resources to helping others,
adults and youngsters follow Christ's message
of love and service in thought and deed."
— GWBush, as Governor of TX, officially
proclaiming June 10, 2000, as
"JESUS DAY in TEXAS."

"After all, religion has been around a lot longer
than Darwinism." — GWBush, reported in George
Magazine, September, 2000

"Government cannot make ppl love one
another ... <; instead,> love comes from a
higher calling, a higher authority; the great
strength of America lies in the hearts and
souls of citizens who've heard that call, not
in the halls of government."
— GWBush, campaigning for president in the
2000 election

10. Arnold says "Let us open our hymnals and all sing "The Old rugged Cross"
Not too subtle, that phony church set.

On edit: wrap mel in an american flag and secure with a cross. Present him like some mediocre hors d'ouerve at Trader Vics. Just the thing for the band-aid crowd.

13. there's a deep and serious problem w/ all of this . . .
through all of Bush's "coded messages" to his religion-into-law constituencies -- why hasn't the press picked this up? Why is it left to the Al Frankens to satire about it?

Why?

This is newsworthy. This is about Separation of Church and State. This is about our president and his political party with a representative "Christian" pulpit on the floor of his Republican National Convention! This is about our president accepting his Republican Party's nomination for another 4 years as our president, all from a "Christian" cross-bearing pulpit!

What's WRONG with this picture? WHERE IS THE PRESS?
